Not for "some reason", because the monthly premium for a family of 4 would go from $900 to $1,600.
Then why is it the "COVID Subsidy?"
A purely made up number, based on guesswork combined with a desire to exagerate.
Premiums rise every year. They rise to the highest level that the market will bear, unless your argument be that Health Insurance Providers are these altruistic people that only charge the abasolute miminum they need to in order to provide the highest possible healthcare to their clients.
We won't know how much premiums will rise in 2026 until people start getting official notices of next year's rates. I've heard lots of claims about next years rates, but seen no evidence.
If Republicans won't extend the subsidy, democrats will. The subsidy can be used to beat down other democrat wish list items.
Very unlikely.
No one is requesting eliminating the work requirement. No worries.
They sure are.
They especially want to eliminate the requirement of legal entry into the country for Evergency Medicaid.
PBS "only" costs $500 million a year. I agree to cut it. We need to focus on the subsidy, not the other stuff that's gone.
Your party or "not your party" hasn't said they are willing to do anything except have the Republicans push their CR with that money through the House and Senate and then they'll vote for that one.
Plus, AOC said the president has to "sign something" or she will never vote to reopen the government. Other Democrats will go along with that, to make sure she doesn't move to their state and primary them.
True. Democrats won't negotiate, they DEMAND. That's why Thune needs to go nuclear and change the rule.
Nope.
He won't reward such childish behavior.
Then the president will follow his interpretation of the law, during the current emergency, as presidents do.
If the Government opens up again, the Democrats can sue him.
No appropriations bill will pass, and Thune will need to go nuclear again.
Same answer as above.
True, but if Republicans don't extend the subsidy, or say 75% of the subsidy, they will be castigated. If we can keep the $1.5T in cuts to everything else, I'm fine keeping the $130b subsidy, but it needs to be means tested.
Sounds like you're negotating with me. That won't work.
The Democrats would have to negotiate with the Republicans for the compromise you suggest to happen. They have made no offers to negotiate, and never will! NEVER!
Oh, except they will after tomorrow's childish "No Kings" riots are done. Then they will start floating offers to the media, who will dutifully ask Republicans if they will accept them.
Even if they did agree to negotiate tomorrow instead of attending Hate America Rallies, why would Republicans give them anything, when the Democrats are not offering anything?
This is a "clean" CR, with some bi-partisan pork added that both sides want a taste of. As Speaker Johnson keeps reminding the media, there are no partisan Republican add-ins in the bill that could be taken out as part of any negotiations.
What are Democrats offering?
