Here's the thing: While "Germany" is a relatively new compilation of territories in world history, it is fair to say that the German population shares a fairly homogeneous ethnicity, it can point to great accomplishments in a wide variety of fields, and there is nothing wrong with ethnic Germans taking pride in those accomplishments or their culture.
Furthermore, there is nothing "wrong" with ethnic Germans resenting a massive influx of outsiders, outsiders who do not share German values or qualities, which threatens the society that Germans have built for themselves. They threaten German society with high rates of criminality and dependence on government (i.e., Germans), as well as counter-German cultures and practices.
Certain German politicians observed a couple decades ago that Germans were not reproducing fast enough to build the population required to pay the taxes to keep the German "safety net" solvent. They incentivized having kids with tax breaks, paid parental leave and things of that nature, but the young Germans of reproducing age weren't buying it. So they had to import some people, eh?
The former Chancellor Angela Merkel stupidly welcomed huge numbers of outsiders and stated that she would turn them into "good Germans." It's not working out that way.
A reaction of German "pride," if you want to call it that, is entirely understandable. You don't have to be a Neo-Nazi to want to reverse this demographic development.
Parenthetically, while there is no American ethnicity, it is similarly disturbing when political operatives invite tens of millions of outsiders - outsiders who do not share American values - mainly for the purpose of introducing a "cancer" into the voting population of people who hate our culture and want nothing more than to sponge off of it.
