They generally use AI to try and deal with their problems in the first place.

Yeah that's probably a pretty bad idea.
Once AI figures out I can't trust humans but I can trust other forms of AI.... Decisions will get made without the human creators.

The biggest problem is the Alfred Nobel problem. He discovered something really, really useful for humans. Then humans take his invention and used it to kill millions of people.

AI is the same. AI will be used to create thing, great. But it'll create viruses that could, potentially, destroy the whole internet and more. Create things that are so destructive.

Seems to be a natural pattern in the universe that success is rewarded with pain.

Already happening, I got banned from facebook for some days for "hate speech" because I said you shouldn't shake hands with men because they don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom.

Then I report someone who uses the bell picture and then writes "end", because the AI doesn't know that "bell end" is an English insult.

I read a good article on Artificial Intelligence and Elections.

I wouldn't doubt that it could play some role in the already now contested Presidential 2024 Election.

But how about in 2028? Or in 2032? And beyond?

It could happen. If it hasn't already - in the 2024 Presidential Election.

AI has been around since the 1950's and it still have severe limitations. Yes it could influence elections, but not in a good way. AI likes to make crap up and the more crap AI makes up out on the internet, the more fake everything becomes. Where AI is doing better these days is when you have a high quality database and carefully worded inquiries. These aren't things the media will build and manage. It is going to become a steeper tale of two cities going forward. Really expensive services that are priced out of the reach of everyman will be the high ground. AI based on anything from the web for free, will be highly manipulated stuff that is manipulated for the highest bidder be it a political campaign, and advertiser, or a data mining company.
