Here's an idea.

Let's take all the able-bodied Americans who refuse to work for whatever reason, send them to Mexico and make them Mexican citizens. . . then, when they illegally cross back in, they might do the jobs that Americans refuse to do!

Naw, George wasn't a pompous religious asshole.

How many people do you think are actually refusing to work, exactly?

The labor participation rate is 63%. Which means 37% of the labor force is not participating.

(By labor force, we mean any American over 16 years of age.)

Well, 52% of them are retired. 16% are ill or disabled. 13% are taking care of family members (children, sick parents, etc.) Another 16% are going to school.

So it's only a tiny sliver that can't find work or are out for other reasons.

Which jobs are those?

Crops need to be harvested.
Buildings need to be built.
Living spaces need to be cleaned.

The problem is we actually need immigration because we have a shortage of working-age people, which is being exacerbated by boomers hitting retirement age. Someone needs to pick Nana's vegetables, but we aren't going to send her out to do it.
