Why the poor should be taxed more heavily.

We should bring back Workhouses like they had in 19th century England.

We should tax sex to discourage the spread of AIDS, and also unwanted pregnancies.

We should tax abortion, and the AIDS patients too, just in case the sex tax wasn't enough to control things.

Hell we should tax Cancer Patients too!

That'll teach 'em to buy a house near power lines!

So this is your excuse for not doing anything to improve your lot in life? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
and by the way...who started all of those graft filled, corrupt programs designed specifically for poor people, minorities and the disabled to get an education and grants for just about anything?

Hint: Democrats.

Thank you for endicting the party of the politics of personal destruction as also being the most corrupt.

And who takes advantage of those programs and uses the taxpayer funds more than anyone else?

Hint: Republicans.

Yeah interesting idea but once you start to think about it you realize that it is stupid. Also, even if the poor dont pay income tax they likely pay sales tax, gas tax, etc. So they should still have a right to vote and have a say in government even under your delusional "fairness." And why should person's political equality in America come down to how much money one has to pay in taxes?

Precisely! Only an elitist can think this is a good idea....

besides the fact that you can not get blood out of a turnip.

Punishing people for being poor ONLY KEEPS THEM POOR....

This is a really off the wall, out of the box idea, that just doesn't make any sense when looked at thoroughly....

Besides, it isn't even a requirement TO VOTE....we have half of our country that doesn't...????
You are assuming that people have no opportunity to work and save. You are assuming that poor people simply are the unfortunates of life with no control over their own destiny.
This is manifestly false. I'd suggest seeing some poor people some time. People respond to incentives. Make being poor a punishing experience and they will find ways not to.
Besides, we've rewarded people for being poor (by giving them food, shelter, free medical care, free this and that) and the result is that we have just as many poor as ever.

Most poor don't choose to be so.....and would starve without the free food. Many of them don't ever get free shelter, in fact most of the homeless don't get free shelter....as for free medical care...emergency medical care ONLY which is why our emergency rooms are so crowded. Wouldn't it be better to provide everybody with routine medical care than have the great majority show up at the emergency room and costs us thousands, when it could have cost a few bucks to treat before it got so bad?

I see poor people all the time. in fact I used to be one.....I'm guessing you never have, in all your life. Must be nice to have mommy and daddy take care of your every need.

I forgot you are the self-appointed token poor person here and your personal experience trumps any figures or economic theory.

" I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it."
-- Benjamin Franklin, November 1776

Just maybe, if the poor were taxed more heavily than the wealthy, it would encourage them to better their position in life so that they could avoid paying so much in taxes.
The government frequently taxes things to discourage it. Things like tobacco and alcohol come to mind. The cap and trade will be a tax to discourage certain types of energy usage the government doesn't want.

Shame on you MountainMan. Maybe if the ultra rich were not always working deals to steal more of their labor for little of nothing or get more of their hard earned cash they would not be so poor.
Shame on the poor for letting themselves be taken advantage of.

But the wealthy need the poor to keep the middle class scared shitless.

But when the poor vote for more benefits for themselves it scares the shit out of everybody except the poor and the stupid.

"When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."
-- Benjamin Franklin

We are going to take care of the poor, Mountain Man, and you, you lucky person, are going to help with that. Guaranteed.

Wow, so the fact that I am not poor is all due to luck?
For the last 30+ years 11-13% of US citizens have lived in poverty, so I guess the other 87-89% are all lucky.:lol::lol:

I'd like to see the stats that back up the crap you're spreading here.

At the behest of unfair taxation foisted at the point of a GUN, correct?

And we have no say? How arrogant of you.

Define unfair taxation.

Read the original Intent of the Founders. Personal Income was never supposed to be taxed.

Yes, that's correct. I gave you some more homework. But I don't expect complience. You think it's grand to steal sweat equity from one to give to another too damned lazy to do for themselves.

Poor people, for the most part, make poor choices which lead to them being poor.

Heavier taxation results in higher motivation to get the hell out of the rut they're in. And if they aren't capable of it, it helps to pay for their predicament.

HOMELESS people, on the other hand, are oblivious to things like preventative medical care and housing. Why? Because they're batshit crazy and CHOOSE not to pursue those things.

Alli and Mountain Man, get over yourselves. You are on the inverted side of this discussion, and are morally and constitutionally wrong about the subject. The majority spoke last fall, the majority will speak in Congress this fall, and if you want to squeal, go ahead. No one cares.

I'm neither morally nor constitutionally wrong. The squealing I hear is yours.

This is where you tell me God won't recognize me if I don't support mandatory government health care.

"Never"? Where is that written, and why did the Founders create an amendment process for our governing charter? If you disagree with it, work with others to reverse the amendment. In ten years, check back with us and let us know how you are squealing . . . er, doing.
