I've been asking this kind of question since 2016 -- why so many are so willing to overlook and ignore so much -- and what has worked for me is to simply pay attention to what they say. Obviously this can be difficult, since so much is just nonsensical, bizarre and difficult to believe, but I think the answers are also there.

They have been led to believe, by voices they choose to trust, that they are either "losing their country", or have already "lost" it. And you'll notice that NONE of those voices, NONE of them, EVER address how to better deal with their political opposition in terms of communication and collaboration. When you're going after clicks and views and listeners, messaging has to be as simple and as binary and as hyperbolic as you can get. So, these people have been told that they are AT WAR. With E-V-I-L.

And don't underestimate the religious component. Most of them are susceptible to apocalyptic thinking, Good vs. Evil, either/or, all or nothing. Anything that doesn't comport with the established story must be from the devil and must be shunned. They'll tithe to any wacky narrative that promises salvation and deliverance. They want one person to whom they can look up and trust and follow and love. Hence the comparisons to a cult, by people from across the political spectrum, including their own party.

This ain't just about politics. This is MUCH more. It's why they're so full of rage and attack anything that moves. When I got my head around that, this all began to make a lot more sense.
