Why SNAP allows soft drinks.

I make coffee with a $20 Walmart brand Mr. Coffee machine and it tastes fine.

Fine, but I don't want a cup of coffee on a hot day.

How would you like when you go shopping or into a restaurant the checkout girl limiting what you can buy or order to eat based on what your body type looks like instead of what you are hungry for?

Excellent example!

What would they do if they went to Olive Garden and the waitress said, "You could lose a few pounds, Fatty! That will be salad only for you and no dessert".

My decision? To allow freedom of individual choice this nation was founded on, while slowly encouraging better lifestyles and foods so that people naturally eat and live better, not by government force.
But it's ok to force others to pay for the soda pop and junk food?

Soft drinks contain calories, which USDA considers food. Also those who run the program likely recall quenching thirst with soda after exercise. I remember once downing three bottles of soda after a tennis match on a hot day. The problem is that today's youth sit on a couch in an air-conditioned house playing video games or surfing their smartphone and getting fatter by the minute.

Indiana - FINALLY - banned soda and candy using SNAP.
This should have happened decades ago

If you want to buy pepsi, you can still do so.

Its just that the taxpayers aren't going to buy it for you.

Healthy eating habits are an issue at all income levels and need levels. Not sure what the answer is. American food tastes good but is bad for you. Particularly convenient food. SNAP is fairly focused.

What about sweet tea? Kool-Aid? Fruit juices? What about sugar cereal? What about cookies? What about popsicles? Ice Cream? Bacon? Cheese? Whole milk vs skim milk? Processed crackers? Potato chips?

Why just soda? Its a pandora box to start micromanaging the food substance of just the needy.

SNAP is focused on healthful food, but 20 percent of it is spent on soda and snack foods. This is also mirrored by those not on food assistance programs.

Healthy eating (eating that supports health) is not complicated, but since the "experts" can't agree there is mass confusion and the resultant poor health. For example, the experts believe that it's normal for your poop to stink. It's not normal and indicates poor digestion. Your poop should be virtually odor free.

Why not eliminate some of the items you've listed?

He who pays the piper gets to call the tune.

If you go to a soup kitchen or a prison chow hall, they don't give the diners a choice either, but the meals are provided free.

I'm sure the bums standing in line at the bowery soup kitchen would like to have escargot or something else, but they are getting it at someone else's expense.

DOn't ask me to pay for your food then.

Uh, because we have since the roll out of SNAP

It gets worse. We also get to pay their medical bills.
Hard to believe anyone is actually fighting this. It's like they want to see people get sick and die.

SNAP allows sweetened cereals because of the added milk needed to eat it, which is one of the best foods kids can consume. Active kids burn off the sugar pretty quickly. The problem comes with inactivity. When I was a kid, everyone walked to school, some more than a mile each way. Today they are bussed or driven by parents, so the breakfast food sugar goes to fat.

I'm afraid that the knowledge needed will fall on deaf ears, the poor and others.

The only reason why libs are complaining about this is because Trump is the one doing it.

When they had Big Mike Obama dictating school cafeteria menus in detail, they didn't have a problem.

Michelle's menu died of natural causes, too expensive, and the kids didn't like it.

No one is being forced. We pay our taxes to the government as required by law, government decides on allocations which sometimes includes social benefits to the needy, individuals qualifying make free choices in accordance with their needs and our way of life on how to best spend the benefit.

If you think some people abuse the system, focus on the abusers.

If you think lifestyle and eating habits and food quality could be improved in the country, why not focus on trying to improve it for all and not merely /force/ change on those few most needy and least able to resist that force?

Or do you really want a country where the government forces you how to live? Because once you enable that practice for one group based on some rationalization, you'll likely be next.

Ahha. I note you didn't say regular Pepsi but all Pepsi products period, regardless. So, you effectively endorse fascism in America? Read post #39.
