Common sense. It's not hard if you actually try to understand it. But that's not how you have been reading it. You've been reading it to confirm you pre-conceived ideas about it. It's not that you don't possess the intellect to do the job right, it's that you don't possess the desire to do the job right.
Maybe start with the context of the book. Use your common sense. What is it that YOU think this book is? Because if you start from that position it will make more sense.

Thank you. Now I understand. It's not so much what the Bible actually says as it is how you feel about it. That makes so much more sense than the common claim that Christians actually care about what is on the page. That makes it so much better than man's efforts to govern. With the constitution, we have to go through a cumbersome process to amend it, but with your take on the bible, all you have to do is get enough TV preacher to repeat your new beliefs, and they become dogma, at least for now. Thank you so much for clearing that up for me, and all the other people who mistakenly believed the Bible is supposed to actually means what it says. You so smart.
