Why I carry a handgun.......

Correct, so no need to take a gun whilst shopping. My many visits to the US has shown me that those animals don't shop in the likes of Walmart and Publix. We have guns, we take them to places where it's safe and appropriate to discharge a gun, in public is not one of those places. Flash a gun in public in the UK, DO NOT be surprised cops with firearms are screaming at you.

When you live in a gun safe country, Americans cannot and will never understand. Guns are not a problem, the culture is. America has a problem with it's culture with it's orientation towards guns.
Yeah, but I live in the mountains, so before I can even go to the store, I have to pass through the critters territory.

This is a nice list of the reasons that we, as Americans can, and should, carry guns for self defense........there is a longer list at the link....

I CARRY A HANDGUN BECAUSE:

*Evil exists and may confront anyone at any time and any place.

*Evil exists to destroy all that is kind, good and loving.

*God exists and expects me to protect myself, those I love and those unable to protect themselves.

*Self-defense is a God-given, natural, unalienable right.

*The lives of the innocent—friend or stranger—are worth far more to me and to a just society than the lives of vicious criminals and terrorists.

*By carrying a handgun, I honor the foresight and wisdom of the Founders in writing the Second Amendment, which acknowledges, but does not create, the right to keep and bear arms.

*The Constitution does not bestow liberty; it restrains government from infringing on our liberties. Arms have always been necessary to remind government of that.

*Democrats and other deluded, malicious people are as desperate to disarm the law-abiding as they are to coddle violent criminals, domestic and foreign.

*Never in human history has a government disarmed a people for good reasons.

*Never in human history has a government disarmed a people to ensure greater individual liberty and public safety.

*Any government that would disarm a people cannot be trusted.

*A handgun is the most usual, convenient and effective means of self-defense.

*Going armed reinforces and upholds the Social Contract.

*A government that labels half of the nation “white supremacists,” “insurrectionists,” “domestic terrorists,” “racists” and sends federal law enforcement to spy on and harass parents objecting to the sexual and political indoctrination of their children makes plain the wisdom of the Founders in writing the First and Second amendments.

I've been armed for many years and in that time, I've never had to pull it out or even display it in any situation, which is a good thing. As my main carry weapon is a Glock 30, I prefer to not have a round in the chamber as the only safety on the Glock 30 is, don't have your finger on the trigger.
As we see more and more nutjobs on the roads and streets now, it is a bit comforting to know that I have it, just in case.
The morality that once existed is harder to find these days and sticking a firearm in your face and stealing your car, robbing you, or breaking into your home has become prevalent enough to have a precaution.
The problem here is that it is a hardcore lefty-loony state and there is no such thing as a stand your ground law. They're more likely to arrest you for using a firearm to defend your life than arrest the scum that commits the crime.

It's because you feel small, or weak, or underachieving, then you want to own a gun to give you the feeling of power over other people. Paranoia, anger, and insecurity gives you social anxiety and owning a gun is a quick and simple solution, but it makes you the most unsuitable person behind a firearm. It creates a shoot first, ask questions later scenario.
So you have auto, home and life insurance because you feel small, weak and underachieving. A weapon is a tool, or insurance if you will, for protection. I have a CCW, but rarely carry, although I have always been armed since I was eighteen. In most cases a folding knife is a reasonable protection device, but I carry a pistol when going into bad neighborhoods or when I ride my over thirty-thousand-dollar Spyder near the Mexican border. In all those years I have only had to pull my knife once, but it then saved me from a robbery and possible stabbing at the hands of a gang member or common criminal, I'm not sure which; in the seventies gang tattoos were not much of a thing.

How low? You probably have more chance of being struck by lightning twice, but do you carry an earthing lightening rod? Or if you fly off on holiday (vacation) do you take a parachute? Risk assessment is a simple excuse to use, so that excuse can parked to one side.
People don't carry lightning rods, but and reasonably wise person avoids standing out in the open holding a metallic item like a golf club or baseball bat or under a tall tree in a lightning storm. Both vastly increase your risk of a lightning strike.

Quit your pettiness and try again.

Your opinions do not alter facts.
Notice how carefully they phrase that "randomly shot" and they compare it to being a victim of a "mass shooting". They carefully ignore home invasion burglaries, car jackings and armed robberies, not to mention simple random violence which is epidemic in many cities.

I'm nearly 60, never needed a gun for the fallacy of self defence. That myth was never indoctrinated into me, but I'm not American. If you got into a fight, you did the same as the other lad, you used your fists. We also have a culture where carrying a gun in public is a no.

Americans are taught myths and indoctrinated as kids, so you have all those social anxieties to control, a gun helps. We have guns to control vermin on farms etc.., and for sport (clay, pheasant shoots etc..).

You live in a crazy gun culture.
Except in your modern society any assailant is likely to be carrying some sort of deadly weapon like a knife or club, he isn't going to play fair and fight you using marquis of Queensbury rules.

Your culture gives you wrong perception of guns. That why you treat them on the same level as a fire extinguisher. I don't except you to understand.
Our society gives us the PROPER perception of guns; they are TOOLS, just like a hammer, axe, saw or machete, all of which are deadly weapons when used to commit violence.

That's the long and short of it.

Citizens carrying weapons isn't Biblical.

That's, yet another, bastardization of Christianity by white supremacy.
No, that's not the long and short of it. That's just how small minds see it because they are overly emotional and political ideologs. Maybe look into how gun control was used against blacks throughout history. Were they scared too? Or just wanting the capability to defend their families?

ding and if you think you're above others or special because you're and "engineer", you need to get that silliness out of your head. There's a part of your aloofness. I have kids, they're in their 20's now, so don't come the old soldier with me, I'm tuned into that game.
If you have kids in their twenties, you are part of the generation raised by the people who didn't defend their country with violence in that little miff during the forties. You were taught violence never solves anything. You have been indoctrinated to be a victim of anyone stronger or more ruthless than you.

You can obtain a revolver, semi-auto pistol with a less than ten round magazine, a bolt or lever action rifle or a shotgun with a less than five round magazine. Everything else is prohibited. Your ability to purchase/possess firearms can also be removed or prevented by the local government if it decided it has "just cause" which isn't defined other than a laundry list of offenses ranging from offenses in other states to possession of banned firearms or magazines. You also need a firearms permit to buy pepper spray or any other non-lethal protective device. In other words, your rights are subject to state control.
Do they ban putting up a fight when threatened as well?
Do they suggest handing over your car keys and your wallet when somebody tries to mug you?
