To answer the question, the constant raising of the fake "debt ceiling" are just opportunities for congressfolk to posture and saber rattle. The DC will be raised everytime the congress wants it to be, so simply eliminating it makes more sense.

If nothing else, it will save on A/C for the Capitol Building by not having so much hot air during debt ceiling raising time.

I know he is saying politically that it is better to get it done now rather than once he takes office as it would be more difficult. However, if Trump and his team understand what the dangers are, why would Trump want this debt ceiling raised at all? Why the need for it if he is looking to decrease your debt?

Doesn't this just ensure the increase in U.S debt or is this separate from other savings in government that could decrease it?

If Trump wants to go further to the cliff, I presume that in time Musk will not be on board with MAGA any longer. Trump needs to clarify this as there is a real danger, not just in theory it's been proven around the globe many times in other countries; that the U.S debt could collapse your dollar and economy.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle appeared caught off guard Wednesday as President-elect Trump demanded that a debt ceiling hike be paired with a stopgap government funding bill, rejecting a sweeping bipartisan plan to avert a government shutdown this week.


Trump said in a joint statement with Vice President-elect JD Vance that while the party wants disaster aid and support for farmers — issues that are tackled in the temporary funding plan — he wants Congress to pass a “streamlined spending bill” that doesn’t give Democrats “everything they want” and has “an increase in the debt ceiling.”

Why do we even have a debt ceiling if all we do when we hit it is raise it? What is the point? We are one of the only countries that even has it.
