Because they (leftist extremists of whatever ilk) are pushing programs that normal Americans don't want.

So the leftists can't simply announce what they intend to do - they'd be voted out of office in a blink. That's what happened when Hillary tried to make govt take over health care in 1993: She PUBLISHED A BOOK describing exactly what she wanted to do! Democrats got kicked out of office in record numbers at the next election, and Republicans were given majorities in the House, Senate, and most state houses.

Democrats learned that lesson well, and been flagrantly lying about what they want to do, ever since.

The thought of CHANGING what they want to do, and doing what the people want instead, never occurred to them. They knew how you should run your life, better than you do. So they should control you, whether you like it or not. And the more you resist, the more control they must impose on you.
