Zone1 why do some Protestants think that only they are Christians and the Catholics are not?

it seems that in the US the term Christian often means Protestant only

and excludes Catholics

why is that so?
.

Beats me.

I have very satisfying conversations with my best friend, a Lutheran, and I don't get that from her at all.

My priest has gone to Lutheran services and manages to leave the church in one piece.

Most christians are raised with a very "us vs them" mentality. It's one of the huge problems with organized religion in general.

See post #3.

Everyone in my church with whom I've had any discussion about this feels the same.

Sad. Even today, some Protestants believe that only the priest partakes of the wine.

I do regularly, just a sip.

If I thought hard about it, I could think of a number of things Protestants are misinformed about. But that's just some Protestants.

Catholic Church teaches praying to Mary for blessing's and forgiveness which isn't in the Bible.
Also, has a spiritual leader called the Pope and requires people to tell a priest their sins. Who then instructs them to say a few prayers and the sins are erased.
Protestants say this is made up nonsense and not Biblical

As a Catholic, the totality of my relationship with Mary includes asking her to pray for me and also to ask her son to hear my prayers.

Spiritual leaders can be okay, as long as their followers realize they are free to disagree with them.

In his role as in persona Christi -- in the person of Christ -- my priest hears my confessions as such.

You must not be Catholic. Have you done any personal studies about Catholicism from Catholic scholars?

When I was a kid we moved to a small town and the only school was a Catholic school.
So I attended it and learned Catholic theology with the Nun's smacking the back of your hand with a ruler if you misbehaved.
I was glad when we finally moved and I went to public school.

and that formed your concept of Catholics ..... .?

Pretty sad.

My late husband's entire education, K-12, was at the hands of nuns, brothers and priests, and he never had a bad experience with any of them.

I know a couple of the people that teach religious education in my church -- the nearest Catholic school is 25 miles from us -- and one of them is a very loving man whom the kids all look up to. He has taught me a very moving and inspiring lesson about developing my relationship with Christ.

One very good friend is also a religious ed teacher who has two daughters who are nuns, whom I've met briefly and have found to be very gentle and loving people.

If Catholic upbringing is flawed, I wonder why we have one couple who live up the block, who have been married for 70 years. The section where I usually sit in church sometimes is occupied by four generations of the same family.

Our local Knights of Columbus just raised $6K for mothers in need. Just one of their many yearly fund raisers.

I'm satisfied with my concept of Catholics.

Sometimes a Priest would came to our classroom and teach us about the Catholic religion.
Then 1 day a week all the students went to the Catholic church located next to the school and attended a church service.
