Zone1 Why do so many atheists seem to want to attack religion?

1. Jim Jones' cult was an atheist cult.
He was a Christian and he read from the Bible. He was the leader of the Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ. Don't you know that?
2. Love the little pivot from the Catholic Church to radical Islam as you talk about chopping off heads for a gaggle of virgins, in an attempt to indict "theism". It's a common tactic you people use.
It's in the OP title: "Why do so many atheists seem to want to attack religion?" Don't you know that? No, it's a common tactic you theists use .... "playing dumb".
3. It's sheer idiocy to think Christians don't practice to improve.
They don't practice that's why they make the sign of the cross before every game. You don't know that?
4. No Catholic or other Christian thinks he's a "god". Another ridiculous statement
Yes, they do, that's why they get canonized. Christianity is a polytheist cult. They have Fathers, and Sons, and Holy Ghosts. Don't you know that? Duh! :cuckoo:

From AI:
While Jim Jones initially presented himself as a Christian preacher, he ultimately rejected traditional religious beliefs and embraced atheism.

I was talking about the Catholic Church, it's canonized saints, remember? I've axed you five times to name an atheist counterpart to the canonized saints, but you haven't yet.

Here are a few who lived exemplary lives, and would have probably been canonized if not atheist.
Bertrand Russell
A philosopher and Nobel laureate, Russell was a fierce advocate for peace, education, and human rights. His moral courage and intellectual honesty—especially during wartime and political repression—mirror the Church’s emphasis on justice and truth.
Carl Sagan
Though agnostic rather than strictly atheist, Sagan’s reverence for the cosmos and his commitment to scientific literacy inspired millions. His humility and awe before the universe echo spiritual devotion, even if not religious.
Andrei Sakharov
A Soviet physicist turned dissident, Sakharov risked everything to speak out against oppression. His advocacy for civil liberties and nuclear disarmament earned him the Nobel Peace Prize and admiration across ideological lines.
Hypatia of Alexandria
A Neoplatonist philosopher and mathematician in ancient Egypt, Hypatia was murdered by a Christian mob. Though not canonized, her intellectual brilliance and tragic martyrdom have led some to consider her a secular saint.
Albert Einstein
While not an atheist (he leaned toward pantheism), Einstein’s ethical reflections and humanitarian efforts—especially his opposition to racism and nationalism—have saint-like resonance.

I don't see anything in any of their lives to indicate they did great humanitarian works among people. Just being a physicist or philospher isn't enough. Serving humanity is a requirement. Then they have to have sterling personal lives. Most on the list had multiple marriages and divorces. With Hypatia, who knows? And finally, Einstein wasn't close to atheist, so why is he on this list? Sagan- divorce, spousal abuse; Russell married four times, Einstein, had some kind of long-term live-in.

Here's what we're looking for: someone who lives and works among the very people they help lift up, alleviating physical suffering, making them better people, and uplifting them. The individual also has to live a sterling moral life that they have devoted to helping others.

OK, I think, how about this. My son was born with a disability which caused my whole family to suffer. He is doing great now and he gives us all great joy but I can't say I enjoyed the process. Are you saying the journey would have given you peace and joy before you knew all would turn out OK?
Yeah. I am saying that. But it really wasn’t your sacrifice, now was it. Like I said before the best you can hope for is to suffer without complaint.

You sound like a very optimistic person.

How certain are you that you can't be wrong?
Optimistic? No. Grounded.

How certain am I that you have no clue about the value of my faith? I am not uncertain.

How certain am I that you are subjective and skew every piece of evidence at your disposal to confirm your biases? I am not uncertain

How certain am I that God exists, is moralistic and providential? Two words; Jesus Christ.

The Catholic church plays kinda fast and loose when determining the two miracles required for sainthood, doesn't it?

Kinda?
The Vatican ascribes sainthood to people who it says have been proven to perform miracles after they die. Teresa died in 1997 at age 87, and has, according to the church, cured an Indian woman of a cancerous stomach tumor and a Brazilian man of a viral brain infection since then.

I mean, it's pretty easy to look up that Jim Jones was an atheist
He taught the Bible. He was a Christian, a pastor in the Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ. Do you know who Christ was?

You’re kind of changing up on me, dear. Can’t you think of any atheist who lived according to the criteria I listed?
