Why do people buy pet food with pictures of meat on it instead of actual meat?

I never really got this. The bag says "healthy" and shows pictures of beef and peas and shit but you know it's really just ground up corn, dirt, and dog meat. That's what you're really giving your pet. That's exactly why I stopped buying dog food altogether and just started feeding my dog chicken, offal, and table scraps back when I had one.

I let the dogs eat each other, saves on dog food cost........

Because the company is selling to you, not your dog.

If it showed you pictures of dirt on the bag of dog food, you wouldn't buy it.
