If withholding and misleading information from China was responsible for America's miserable response to the virus then why were other countries such as South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, and dozens of others with the same information able to deal with the virus so well.

By comparison, cases in the US increased from 100 to 144,000 during the same period. The Most plausible explanation is the CDC did not start working on developing a test when China made the genome available on Jan 10th because the president had no interest in doing so. He was was working on closing off travel from China, assuring the public and his administration the virus was under control and then it was just the common flu, and the media warnings about the pandemic were just a democrat hoax. The truth is it would not be until March 11th that Donald Trump actually saw the virus as a serious threat to the nation and gave it the priority it should have had two months ago. Latest cause for concern are: former Cleveland Clinic researcher Qing Wang along with ex-professor Dr. Xiao-Jiang Li (Emory University) and Dr. Simon Saw-Teong Ang (University of Arkansas).

If misrepresentations and lies by China were responsible for America's horrible response to the virus, then why have almost all other nation's response been so much better than America. We lead the world in the total number of cases and deaths and have highest per capita death rate and number of cases of all major nations. The fact is the Trump administration failed to prepared for the virus. Trump had no plan to respond to the virus and failed to appoint anyone to manage the response. We lacked an adequate stockpile of critical supplies, developed test kits that didn't work, failed to order reagents needed for testing until they were in short supply, and when test kits were delivered, federal regulations prevented state labs from processing them.

The United States leads the world in both coronavirus cases and coronavirus deaths- over 80,000 Americans have died from coronavirus during Trump's watch.
Our deaths per 100K/population are 28.10- which puts us ahead of the UK and France- but far behind Canada with 16.27, Germany with 9.74 and Poland with 2.5 and South Korea- which had its first case the same day as the United States- with an astonishingly low .51.

What explanation do you have for why the United States so many more deaths per capita than Germany and South Korea- who had just as much warning as the United States?
If having 3 times more Americans die than Germans is not considered a failure of leadership what is? Football coaches have been replaced for doing better than that.

The pandemic response team was disbanded
The pandemic response plan was ignored
The United States lagged far behind South Korea and Germany in sending out tests- and when it did send out the first tests- 3 weeks after Germany and South Korea- they were defective.
The United States- when a U.S. manufacturer offered to ramp up production of American made masks- repeatedly- in January- but the Trump administration turned them down.

Trump repeatedly downplayed the significance of the coronavirus- including this gem from February:

“And again, when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that’s a pretty good job we’ve done.”

As of today- there are now 1,000,000 times more cases than when Trump told Americans it would be down to zero within a couple of days.

Outside of a few hotspots in Blue States handled by democrat governors, this nation did quite well.
I don't think that it was Trump who told those states to put infected patients in with the nursing homes.
If he did could you please link that for all of us.

Trump made America's response to the virus a political football when he repeatedly pointed to his China travel ban as evidence of his early seriousness about COVID-19. What he never mentioned was American Airlines had already cancelled fights from China and most airlines had suspended all flights from Wuhan area. However, Trump framed the virus as a foreign problem solved by keeping foreigners out. This suited Trump’s political purposes as he campaigned for re-election on tough border control. But it did nothing to help Americans as infection rates exploded in the coming months.

On February 28 at his North Carolina rally, he decided to downplay the seriousness of the virus by calling it just the common flu and calling the media warnings a democrat hoax. At his rally, while he was ridiculing those that were calling for action, the CDC was getting reports of many cases and deaths in Washington State with pleas for test kits, guidance, and supplies.

In early March Trump sent Pence to Washington to assure the governor that the federal government was on top of the situation and urgently need supplies were on the way, which they weren't. Pence then visited Florida to give the the Cruise industry Donald Trump's personal assure that Cursing was safe and the coronavirus would not prohibit people from taking cruises. A week later, 4 cruises lines reached and agreed with the Trump administration to stop offering cruises and 2 weeks later all cruises out of the US were stopped. March was one disaster after another for the Trump administration ,no working test kits, shortages of PPEs and ventilators, misunderstandings by the states as to what level of support to expect from the federal government. Trump refused to take any responsibility, blaming the CDC, Obama, the democrats, China, and finally the WHO.

So what your diatribe accomplished and said is that the information about COVID-19 has changed daily, due in large part, to the intentional lies put out about the virus by China and WHO.

But one thing that has never changed in America's piss poor response to the virus is it's world leadership in number of cases and deaths. Trump has finally made America number one.

The thing you don't take in account is that most nations, if any at all don't have individual states. Each of our states adopt
what direction they are going to take with the Chinese virus. Other nations have one person calling the shots for the entire country.
You can place blame the event on Trump, but it just shows how you are just politicizing the event. You are really transparent about it.

Actually most all of them except for the smallest do have individual states (provinces) and like the US there is a division of responsibilities between the central government and the states.

As I have said before, Trump's major failing was not the lack of management and coordination but the lack of a pandemic response plan. It would have been almost impossible for any president to put together and adequate response once the virus was lose in the country primarily do to the fact that as you mentioned, not having one person calling all the shots. This makes a plan not just a nicety but essential. The responsibilities between the states and the federal government and between agencies have to worked out well in advance so the federal plan can meshed with the state epidemic plans and each agency can make it's plans. The issue concerning who stock piles essential supplies and equipment has to be done in advance as well specifying how the stockpile will be maintained. Without a plan signed off by the various agencies and approved at the highest level, the response will be bogged down in red tape, bureaucracy, and lack of coordination which is exactly what has occurred with the coronavirus.

Yes, I'm politicizing it because that is exactly what Trump has done since January, taking credit for what little has been done right and blaming others for everything that has failed. When Americans goes to the polls next November, the FED thinks the unemployment rate will probably be around 9%, if everything goes well this summer which is not likely. So you can bet on Trump playing the blame game, big time.
