Cheney On Two-Thirds Of The American Public Opposing The Iraq War: ‘So?’
This morning, on the fifth anniversary of the Iraq invasion, ABC’s Good Morning America aired an interview with Vice President Cheney on the war. During the segment, Cheney flatly told White House correspondent Martha Raddatz that he doesn’t care about the American public’s views on the war:

CHENEY: On the security front, I think there’s a general consensus that we’ve made major progress, that the surge has worked. That’s been a major success.

RADDATZ: Two-third of Americans say it’s not worth fighting.

CHENEY: So?

RADDATZ: So? You don’t care what the American people think?

CHENEY: No. I think you cannot be blown off course by the fluctuations in the public opinion polls.

Cheney on why he didn't serve or volunteer to defend America when other young men were doing so---and dying:
Away from the hearing room, he told the Washington Post that he had sought his deferments because "I had other priorities in the 60's than military service."

Bush: just google: bush ignores public opinion or any similar phrase with Bush on the querry.

sigh

crazies expressing faux outrage at proponents of health care reform are soooooooooooooooo hypocritical and clueless.

I guess what I find interesting is that, in spite of what I'm guessing was your outrage at Bush and Cheney ignoring public opinion regarding the war in Iraq...you now seem to be saying that its ok for the President and other politicians to ignore public opinion because they know what is right for us.

Is it just because the politicians you personally support are in power now? Because you personally agree with "Obamacare?" Or is there another reason why you feel that it was wrong for politicians to ignore public opinion then...but that it is appropriate for them to do so now?

From my perspective, it seems that while it is not always possible for the average citizen to have an understanding of what is going on "on the ground" in a warzone...it is possible for an average citizen to educate themselves about a bill and make an informed opinion regarding it...so the two scenarios you have put forward (the war in Iraq vs. Obama's health care plan) aren't exactly equal.

I'm interested to see what your point here is exactly....are you just playing the "well you guys did it...so now we're gonna do it and you shouldn't complain!" game? Or do you have another purpose in mind?

Good post Dev. I wonder where all of these GOP protesters were when Cheney basically told them to STFU and sit down?

What makes you think Obama is ignoring public opinion?

well....more than half the folks are against health care yet he presses on.....i would assume that all the same people that were against the war under bush are all still against it yet he presses on....

Because Cheney was telling dipshits like YOU to STFU and sit down..

And why do you end declaratives with question marks? Oh, you're an illiterate liberal.. that’s why.

Gem, the Dems won the elections and took both the House and the Senate. They have large majorities plus the President. Elections have consquences, and the Dems will do as they wish. The Pubs are in the minority.

So be it.

your guess is wrong. don't quit your day job and join the circus like you were going to.

If Obama or the Democrats were ignoring public opinion I would be surprised. There are times I support opinion being recognized but put aside, not here. The protests are based on lies, distortions and misinformation.

Democrats---I was one before 2008---do not always blindly support a Dem president. Liberals like me never do so. Blind obedience to dogma and party is a conservative trait exhibitted during the 2000 & 2004 campaigns when most conservatives I know said they only voted for Bush/Cheney because they were not Dems

I do not play ---except in fun--- the you did it, I do it, game. That is what the GOP did for 8 years... "Clinton did it too." Clinton's penis was big enough for the GOP to hide behind for 8 years.

They are??? I had no idea so many people were against health care?

ah....look at you diverting to a symantics argument because i left out a word.........

are you unaware that the national polls indicate that a majority are against what obama is pushing....

Are you aware that fear mongering and lying from the right has played a large role in this shift?

half? (39 percent — a plurality — believe that Obama’s plan ) I thought the GOP was pushing the 'plurality' line.

I always thought those who hid behind pluralities were socialist supporters of the Chilean President who was overthrown and assassinated.

The dems are making the same mistakes as the republicans did, and they too will face the same results as the republicans did.
