Why did America stopped being aspirational in the late 2000s to mid 2010s?

I look at that time period with embarrassment. It was so shallow and vapid.

Reality TV was rampant. The youth of America's suburban schools were not inspired to do better in math.

Since then it has only gotten worse. Conspiracy type thinking is more rampant and the conspiracies have become crazier and dumber.

It is one thing to say the Moon landings never happened. It is another thing to say that "Space is Fake".

What if instead of being obsessed with celebrities and professional athletes American society instead was inspired to become the best versions of themselves mentally and physically because they looked up to astronauts and scientists?

What if instead of aspiring to look like people from Hollywood the Americans of the 2000s instead ate healthy and exercised because they wanted to be healthy not because they wanted to look a certain way?

Would society be better off?

You are right .

Most americans cannot aspirate and will say "aitch" when trying to pronounce the letter , h .

They also find the other twenty five letters tricky .

Students, like the ones In Virginia, do sometimes still excel, but that is being withheld from everyone for the sake of "equity"
