This is a scan from a photograph I had awhile back. I sold the photo a couple years ago but found the scan today. The photograph was taken in 1942 and shows four Nazi officers sitting at a banquet table, during some function. The reverse side of the photograph has their names written on it. The abbreviation on the back (v.l.z.r.) means "From left to right" "Von links zu recht.)

What do you suppose was going through their minds?

Don't see any Nazi regalia on any of them.

Look a little closer: Luftwaffe eagle patches near the right breast pockets. The guy on the right is wearing some medal, not an Iron cross.

As is this one:

They weren't "thinking".

If any of them had a rational thought at that period in time they would have fled to some hamlet in Lichtenstein and retired as farmers.

Socialism sucks. Always has, always will.

The photo was taken in April of 1942. Germany was getting hammered by the RAF during that month, as well as the Luftwaffe hammering England. These things were happening in April, but I have no idea if any of them had to do with the officers in the picture.

Apr. 4; Germans plan "Baedeker raids" on touristy or historic British sites, in revenge for the Lübeck bombing.

Apr. 8; Heavy RAF bombing of Hamburg.

Apr. 23; Beginning of so-called Baedeker Raids by the Luftwaffe on English provincial towns like Exeter, Bath, Norwich, and York; attacks continue sporadically until June 6.

Apr. 24; Heavy bombing of Rostock, Germany by RAF.

Apr. 27: Rostock is bombed for fourth night in a row.

Apr. 29; The "Baedeker raids" continue, focused on Norwich and York.

It would be curious to know who they were. Their names are on the back but German cursive writing is almost impossible to decipher.

April 42?

They were relieved as all get outbthat thenfront stabilized after the disaster at Moscow in December of 41.

They were hoping Russian industry was broken.

They were trying to figure out why Germany was only strong enougj to attack on the Southern Front that smer if the Russians were so close to breaking?
There were hoping Russian manpower was exhausted.

They figured the Russian air force would never recover, right?

They were trying to figure out how to kill jews faster maybe to earn a bettwr appointment

Those are military parches, not Party regalia or medals. Some jobs did however require Party membership, but that wouldn't necessarily make one a raving Nazi, either, just a technicality.

Ranks and insignia of the Nazi Party - Wikipedia

Your pictures are blurry on my screen, but I can't see the collar or shoulder patches and they aren't wearing the armbands as Party members would on formal occasions. Rank and file 'members' wouldn't be given rank and regular Party regalia.

As a fun exercise, guess which band Hitler wore?
