I love learning about the Saints. I make Rosaries and this fall, I'm making prayer chaplets for as many of the Saints as I can find, for sale at our Fall Festival, to benefit the Altar Society at my church.

I'd love to find a St. Lawrence Chaplet. What a wonderful story!

Our priest uses stories about lots of Saints in his homilies and St. Lawrence made us laugh.

It's ME and a few million like me

In the Bible, a "saint" (from the Greek hagios and Latin sanctus) is a "holy one," or someone set apart for God's purposes, and this term is applied to all genuine followers of Jesus Christ rather than a select few. Believers are considered saints because they have been sanctified by God through Christ, meaning they have been forgiven of their sins and made holy by His grace.

Have no clue that we have or even needed a saint. What do saints provide?
.

For me, personally, Saints provide inspiring examples of good or Holy living.

The Saints give us stories to inspire us through our lives. If you're a lover of animals, you might choose Saint Francis of Assisi. If you're a musician, you may be drawn to Saint Cecelia. If you're inspired by St John Baptiste de la Salle, you might become a teacher. If you love giving, you might be inspired by Saint Nicholas. If you are especially humble, you might lean towards St. Therese of Lisieux.

When a Catholic child is confirmed, or an adult converts to Catholicism, he or she may want to choose the name of a confirmation Saint, if they were not named for a Saint at birth.

So they are like mentors? Using examples is inspiring, I just never looked into saints and their purpose, thanks.

Yes, very much so. We do derive a lot of inspiration from our Saints.

There are plenty of stories of miracles of the saints that are hard to believe, but there are others that are a lot easier to accept on faith, or that we even have proof of. I would like to see those that are provable, like the blood of St. Januarius, which was saved in a couple of glass vessels when he died, in 305 AD, and regularly changes from solid to liquid and back.
