A senior White House official was reported to have said "We're Winning.....it doesn't matter how long the shutdown lasts."

Let's see how long it takes to show up on Drudge.

Although the government shutdown continues, it appears President Barack Obama and the White House are not getting any closer to negotiating with Republicans. A quotation from an unnamed senior administration official in today's Wall Street Journal explains why.

Said a senior administration official: "We are winning...It doesn't really matter to us" how long the shutdown lasts "because what matters is the end result."

With this view, it explains why President Obama won't agree to any piecemeal legislation that would keep Veterans Affairs and NIH open during the shutdown. And it explains why President Obama would rather cancel his Asia trip than negotiate with Republicans.

It's because the White House (or, at least this unnamed official) believe it is "winning" by shutting down the government and blaming Republicans. And when one's winning, he's not likely to change course.

As the Journal details, Obama has also argued that he won't negotiate over the debt ceiling because the stakes are too high.

Another risk for Mr. Obama is that people may not sympathize with his refusal to negotiate over the debt ceiling. The Treasury Department has said that no later than Oct. 17 it will only have $30 billion in cash—a sum that will be exhausted in one or two weeks, according to the Congressional Budget Office. After that point, Treasury is expected to start falling behind on its bills.

Again, Mr. Obama has vowed not to negotiate, saying the consequences of default would be so severe the matter can't be held hostage to political negotiations. "There will be no negotiations over this," he said Thursday.

Proof that they want the shutdown, and are perfectly happy no matter how long it lasts.

All the Obam-bots are just in phoney outrage mode.

Obama Scare on Debt Limit: 'The Whole World Will Have Problems,' But, 'There Will Be No Negotiations'
October 4, 2013 -- Speaking in suburban Maryland on Thursday, President Obama continued to spread fear about the consequences of not raising the debt ceiling.
He noted that the U.S. has never before failed to raise the debt limit: "And you know, the United States is the center of the world economy, so if we screw up, everybody gets screwed up. The whole world will have problems, which is why, generally, nobody's ever thought to actually threaten not to pay our bills. It would be the height of irresponsibility." But in the next breath, the president said he will not negotiate with Congress, even though everybody will get "screwed up" and "the whole world will have problems." "And that's why I said this before. I'm going to repeat it. There will be no negotiations over this," Obama insisted.

Democrats worry that Republicans will attach spending cuts to any debt limit deal, just as they have insisted on Obamacare restrictions in any stopgap funding bill. A few hours later, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Obama isn't trying to scare the American people when he talks about the dire consequences of not raising the debt limit, but he does think they should be worried. On Wednesday, Obama told CNBC, "This time, I think Wall Street should be concerned."

Fox News reporter Ed Henry asked Carney, "Don't presidents in both parties usually, in times of crises, try to calm the public down? Why are you trying to get the public more scared?" "What -- we're not. We're not -- just providing them with the basic facts," Carney replied. "You want them to be more worried," Henry said. "They should," Carney said. "Ed, you can go on -- I encourage you to test how it plays, if you go on the air and say, America, chill out; default's not a big deal. It is a big deal, and the American people need to know that."

Another reporter pressed Carney about Obama's apparent "goading" of the stock market, which ended up dropping below the 15,000 level on Thursday: "He is -- he was simply stating a fact," Carney said. "In 2011, when Republicans flirted with default, there were negative consequences, many of them -- slowed down growth, slowed down job creation, a hit to the markets and a downgrading of our credit rating for the first time in the history of this country. That is the least of what would happen if we actually defaulted. It -- the president's obviously also carrying the responsibility of informing the American people of the truth, and that is the truth."

Arrested or punished? They were given massive bonuses and golden parachutes for that crash. Then we gave them hundreds of billions to pay them for their losses, then trillions of zero interest loans to buy up all the property at the bottom. No bank left behind.

This is Obama's Standard Operating Procedure. He did this for the sequestration, Remember the Quote "Make it Hurt" he is doing the exact same thing in this situation. Obama is a divider, and spiteful to the people that do not agree with him. His True colors are coming out.

:cuckoo: the obvious is that it really doesn't matter how long it goes on, all sides will lose but gop will lose most.

and an alledged senior staffer speaks about political gains?

Ending this is easy, let Speaker Boner join with House Dems and sane Republicans. Oh wait...it would have to be an anonymous vote/secret ballot because the sane gop fears the reactionary, radical, rightwing Tea Party machine

The shutdown will end when Boehner brings the CR to the floor of the House for an up and down vote.

All of America understands this.

This was his indication that the next thing he's going to do is default, cause a massive crash and blame republicans.
