DOGE and vows to slim government

Anticipated layoffs and program cuts amid the shutdown follow Trump's ongoing mission to gut the federal government of fraud, corruption and overspending, which first hit the nation's radar in the early days of the administration when Trump launched the Department of Government Efficiency, as well as previous mass layoffs initiatives.

Back in January, the administration offered federal employees voluntary buyouts to leave their posts before rolling out reduction in force initiatives across various agencies to slim down the government.

"We have hundreds of thousands of federal workers who have not been showing up to work," Trump said during his joint address to Congress in March. "My administration will reclaim power from this unaccountable bureaucracy, and we will restore true democracy to America again."

Well . . . this is what Democrats and "not Democrats" wanted. Easy to blame Chuck Schumer, since he is clearly acting out of fear for his own political job security. But 41 Democrat and "not Democrat" Senators are going along with him, and they are the ones who might boot him out of the Majority Leader job if he backs down. Dem voters share the blame because they are the ones who might vote for AOC if Schumer doesn't do this.

I see no compromise possible, so each side will wait for the other to crack. It may be a good long time, because Schumer only cares about one person who might lose their federal job - himself.

/----/ I've waited my entire adult life for this; pardon me if I'm impatient. Let the firings begin.

It's amazing that a 74 year old multi-millionaire is so petrified of losing his seat. A normal, mentally healthy person would take his money and ride into the sunset. But most of our politicians suffer from the 'Gollum' syndrome. They can't give up that ring of power. They're sick *****. So, the best thing that can happen is for DOGE to cut deep. We need to stop politics from being a place to go to get rich quickly, which it is right now.

I might would care normally, but the more people Trump fires, the less manpower his administration will have to F things up even more.

If they were underperforming, why didn't DOGE fire them before? Was it a scam then or now?

/----/ Because DOGE had no power to fire anyone. All they did was make recommendations. DERP

Doing a heck of a job

The US national debt has surpassed $38 trillion for the first time, with the milestone reached amid a government shutdown. This rapid accumulation of debt, with the last trillion-dollar increase being one of the fastest outside the pandemic, raises concerns among economists about the long-term economic impact, including higher interest costs and reduced investment.
last trillion-dollar increase being one of the fastest outside the pandemic
a growing debt load over time leads ultimately to higher inflation, eroding Americans' purchasing power.

higher borrowing costs for things like mortgages and cars, lower wages from businesses having less money available to invest, and more expensive goods and services.

“reaching $38 trillion in debt during a government shutdown is the latest troubling sign that lawmakers are not meeting their basic fiscal duties."

Maybe Trump needs to stop spending so much ******* money. I'm sick of listing all the waste fraud and abuse. Giving himself $230 million dollars, fixing up the white house, changing the name to DOJ, parades, retrofitting a plane that he's going to take with him. Billions to Argentina. Bailing out farmers because he fucked them good with his tariffs. The list goes on and on.

Will Trump have personally spent $1 trillion of our dollars by the end of his term?

/—-/ Only Congress can spend the money, Libtard.
