IMHO Chic, the last thing the US needs is more punitive prosecutions. Your jails are overflowed more than any other country's in the world.

And Norway is demonstrating how incarceration doesn't work as well as an attitude of rehabilitation.

How surprising is it that the concept Norway has adopted is accidentally in concert with the urging of the christian bible, while America attempts to make the opposite work hon?

Jail and prison are not always the answer. I actually agree. A prosecution without a threat of jail or prison is not generally a very persuasive way to get the people in a society to comply with reasonable laws however.

I say this as a conservative. Mass incarceration has significant drawbacks for a society. Not just for the ones penalized, but for all of us. On the OTHER HAND, isolating violent lawbreakers from the law abiding folks in society sure seems to have some merit.

Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that there is no “one size fits all” resolution to this problem. What may work in a relatively cohesive society may not work in a much more diverse society. We might all agree that peace is superior to war. But it can’t be claimed that war has never solved some dire problems.

I know I don’t have all the answers. Very few in fact. But I believe in asking the right questions and working to obtain meaningful workable solutions. Or at least to seek out those prospects and try to move closer to them. Frankly, that’s my basic understanding of the American way.
We don’t always get it right. And it may take a frustratingly long time. But we do try. And we do often succeed. We did end slavery. We did help defeat the damn Nazis. We have landed men on the moon.

If I agree (as I did) that jail and prison aren’t always the answer but suggest that it may be necessary for violent offenders to insulate the rest of us from their behavior, I could have just sworn that implicit was the position that not all crimes call for jail or prison.

A highly politicized Democrat Party DOJ sought to indict him for refusing a Democrat Congress’ fishing expedition partisan subpoena to testify about the January 6 Capitol incident.
