The Left.
1.There is always the battle between good and evil, but ofttimes it can be traced to a political origin rather than any destructive āseedsā found in human nature.
Western Civilization went off the rails when the people of France simply could no longer take the oppression imposed by the combination of the aristocracy and the Church.
A revolution was in order.....but the misjudgement was the targets of that revolution:
āThere is always a well-known solution to every human problem--neat, plausible, and wrong.ā H. L. Mencken
That, of course, is the problem with socialism/atheism.
2. Rather than combat the iniquity of the particular church and the individual at fault, the intellectual elites blamed religion, worship of God, and the Bible. All of religion was attacked, even though it it should have been clear that the guidance of the Judeo-Christian faith was responsible for Western Civilization itself.
The fact was not lost in the American Revolution, which is why our nation did not become the abattoir that France did.
One of the most advanced, sophisticated nations of the 18th century kills 600,000 citizens- many of itās most valuable citizens, plus some 145,000 flee the country- and the study of same is considered insignificant??? Schom, āNapoleon Bonaparte,ā p. 253.
Human life has never been important to any version of Leftism....you can see that in the current Democrat Party.
3. With the Jacobins in control, the āde-Christianizationā campaign kicked into high gear. Inspired by Rousseauās idea of the religion civile, the revolution sought to completely destroy Christianity and replace it with a religion of the state. To honor āreasonā and fulfill the promise of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen that āno one may be questioned about his opinions, including his religious views,ā Catholic priests were forced to stand before the revolutionary clubs and take oaths to Franceās new humanocentric religion, the Cult of Reason. (see āDemonic,ā by Coulter)
That set the tone for:
a.Karl Marx
b. . Bolsheviks claimed descent: āHistorians of the French Revolution, which the Russians saw as a model for their ownā¦ā Bolshevik Festivals, 1917ā1920
c. Americaās Progressives/Democrats/Liberals.
Western Civilization took a wrong turn at the French Revolutionā¦..a Left turn.
