One of the conditions of our conditional withdrawal was that the Taliban was suppose to stop terrorists like ISIS from using Afghanistan as a launching point for attacks against the USA. Not really, the timeline was 135 days. That would be sometime in July 2020.

Not only that but over rest of the year Benedict withdrew over 5,000 more troops and ordered a reduction to a mere 2,500 after he lost the election, all without enforcing most all of the conditions on the Taliban. He gave up everything and the Taliban didn't have to give up anything.

Biden had two choices. Go back to war with the Taliban to fix all the Trump f-ups, or end the 20 year military occupation. Had he chosen the former, we would have lost way more than 13.

That is what the Taliban captured.

They military recommended the deployment of over 5,000 fresh troops in order to run the evacuation and they got it. In fact Biden gave them all they asked for in the evacuation. Both sides were honoring truce, so no troops were lost in combat.

They argued with Benedict too, and advised him to not withdraw the troops until the Taliban started to comply with the agreement. They argued and advised him in the fall too. After the troop level reached 8,600, but he lowered the number again. After the election loss, probably in a fit of rage, he ordered the withdrawal of all troops in Afghanistan as well as Iraq and Somalia. Of course after further conversation with the military, he cancelled that order and signed a new order reducing the number to 2,500 in Afghanistan by Jan 15th, just days away from Biden taking office.

Another Mess the next guy had to clean up.
