While I disagree totally with what they are trying to do, you aren't making a valid argument about the 2nd amendment. It is illegal in most if not all states to own a fully-automatic rifle. This isn't considered an infringement on anyone's rights. They aren't trying to outlaw all firearms, only handguns. Making an argument about selective gun control might be a better tack.

thats what i was thinking. Handguns are legal in almost every state. If this city decides to buck STATE law by banning handguns, where the hell does it end. The right to bear arms is protected by the constitution. I understand the need to control the illegal sale to criminals of guns but the only ones who get hurt by these laws are the law abiding citizens. The criminals will still be getting their guns. I doubt they'll be walking up to the police precinct and handing them over if this assinine law is enacted. This city also decided on its own to hand out gay marriages against state law. It'll also make it easier for them to prey on normal, law abiding citizens. They know its a better then average chance that someone won't be carrying a gun. So that will give them an advantage being as theyll still have theirs.

Isn't it amazing how it's those that protest conservatives are too intrusive in people's rights,,,,,,,yet it's the Liberals that are imposing all these unconstitutional laws!!

Let's see conservatives oppose killing babies and keeping God in the Pledge, and preserving the traditional form of church marriage to man and woman.

Liberals want to tax us to death, take away the right to own guns, kill babies, take God out of every public forum possible, and relegate religious expression to churches and basements, give kids the right to abortions without parents consent, force evolution teachings, socialize medecine, take away parents right to spank their kids, or listen in on phone conversations, infringe on freedom of speech under the auspice of PC.......and on and on it goes............

They cannot go around the constitution, they will attempt to change it. They call it a "living document". It must "evolve" to fit the times. The second ammendment was meant for the 18th century. There is no need for it now. No more guns for Americans.

Americans are generally moral because they are 90% religious. If they are moral they will not accept Communism. They will not accept the deviant social behavior that Dems champion. What to do, what to do. I know, call everyone who disagrees with said deviant behavior a bigot. Shame them into submission. Now we can't denounce religion as a whole, lest we appear...well...anti-religion. Christianity is the biggest chunk. Christmas is offensive to people who don't celebrate it. If a Jew sees a Merry Christmas sign he begins to cry and fears that the Christian-police are coming. Remove Christianity from everything. Now the basis of morality is gone. For good measure, morality is also offensive, since some things can be considered wrong instead of different.

Let's see. Money? Check. Stripped the enemy of guns? Check. Abolished morality? Check.

Seems like everything is going as planned.

I would carry the good old pump shotgun on a sling over my shoulder. Nothing says "Don't mess with me" like a 12 guage. No permit required for a shotgun either.

If they actually pass this law though, they need to be prepared to hire a gazillion more cops. If for instance, I were a small business owner who has to transport a substantial amount of cash to the bank every day, and I was prohibited from providing my own security by means of a handgun, I would be calling to demand a police escort every day.

the only way to make sure this ban is in effect os to go to <i>every</i> house on every street and block. just because the NCIC says i dont own a hand gun doesnt mean i dont own one. and they arent about to do that.
but whats next to ban? well we have to ban shotguns because they have a wide pattern. then we have to ban rifles because they are too powerful. then we are going to ban SUV's cause they guzzle gas, then high-end sports cars cause it lets people know you have money and you are a target...

I did a keyword search on the ACLU website, and found no specific reference to Second Amendment cases which they are actively involved in.

As for the anti hand-gun lobby, they seem to have forgotten about the concept of 'responsibility'. Rights necessarily entail responsibilities. The greater the likelyhood that the exercise of those rights could lead to the harm of oneself, another, or both, then the greater the responsibility one bears for the consquences of exercising those rights. Thus it is with the right to keep and bear arms. Only those who have proven incapable of exercising that right in a responsible manner should have that right sharply curtailed or denied. Collective punishment is for kindergarten.

The ACLU is not the problem here. It is the anti hand-gun lobby and their failurte to accept the concept of individual responsibility.
