When white people used to do farm work

There is not an illegal alien anywhere to be found

I remember girls in my neighborhood would wear tan affirming clothes ( if you know what I mean) and go out and pull rye in the wheat fields. This was 1966 though

There are a lot of young people (men) who would be ashamed to learn a trade

And plenty of women who would not date a tradesman
You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. Look around and re-assess that opinion. It is 180 degrees from factual...... In most of the Country.

In some places, it may be true but who wants to live there anyway?

I could give you hundreds of examples of why you're mistaken but you are. You just are. My Nephew started as an electrician many years ago. He just bought his 37th Van and Hired three more guys to work at his 5 Million dollar year business.

Another Nephew is an Attorney and just divorced his wife for boinking one of the partners. I'm worried about him.

My ex-best friend is a mechanic and he's dragging down $500k a year, shows up when wants to, goes fishing a lot.

The White Collar guys?? They're just slaves to their jobs, their ungrateful kids and their fat wives. They work their asses off their entire lives and the people they support couln't give a **** less. In fact, they see him as being in the way of their happiness.

The Tradesmen, the responsible ones, the successful ones are much happier. I had a Family Member that graduated Cum Laude from a "Public Ivy" (look it up) and he was a drunk most of his life, bordering on homeless. He's gone now but it doesn't matter what kind of education you have. In fact, it is my frim opinion that education gets in the way of success as much as anything...... Unless you get a Trade School education like a Doctor, Lawyer, Nurse, Engineers, etc. But just a general, :iberal Arts Degree? Worthless. Worse than worthless. It hols you back.

For sure but the guy didn't tell me. I regret buying it and wish I had bought a Husky.

The Deere customer service was great...as they delivered it and my salemen showed me how to use it.

China thing doesn't bother me as much him not telling me it will shut off if the angle is to much.

In other words it was for rich people who have nice level lawns.

BTW: I (WE) paid $200 extra for a KZ motor over the B&S.
I ran my lawn tractor into the workbench in my shed by accident one day when I was putting it away, and I didn't notice anything wrong. A week or so later I was mowing my front yard when a part feel off the front of the tractor and I picked it up and continued to mow because nothing seemed to be affected. Turns out it was the bumper/hinge in the front and both support arms broke where they bolted to the frame. I just placed the engine cover/hood back in place and used it for the rest of the year. One day I threw the part in the car, drove to my local dealer and asked if they had a replacement after not seeing one in the parts description. The clerk said yes, but he would have to order it. I thought "Here comes the long delay and high price!" The new part came in the very next day and cost me $32. Now that is service! Bolted it in place and removed the bungie cords I had used before. Never had another problem.

I have a Husqvarna Zero Turn. It's okay. But I wouldn't buy it again. I don't regret buying it but......... I think I could have done better. The best thing about it is the Kawasaki engine and the Fabricated Deck. Deere thinks they can stamp their decks and get away with it. Not even.

The High End Deere, I mean the $15k ZT is pretty amazing but you're paying a pretty penny for it.

I'd consider a Toro. Totes made in China but good stuff. My ZT is 1,400 miles away. I miss my little farm

I have a small (25hp) Deere riding mower. The little touches are there, the quality is something it takes time to notice.

I have found that you can do better for the money if you shop and educate yourself...... Usually. But if you don't want to become an expert and spend hundreds of hours learning and shopping, just buy a Deere and get it over with. It's hard to go wrong

Right To Repair.

Generic Motors, OnStar®, shit be upon them, is who started all that crap. But because they produce Grocery-Getters, they got shot down by DoT. Hard.

Deere is fighting it but they're gonna lose. I see their point. Today's Farm Equipment isn't like your Grand Pappy's. They're using Satellite systems and electronics not even seen on $800k Ferarri's

OTOH, A piece of equipment breaks down in the field and is easily repairable by Farmer John but the Computer will shut the equipment down if someone other than John Deere Repairman touches it. Yes, it knows when it's being worked on. And a code has to be entered by a Deere Repairman with a Deere Diagnostic Machine or it won't start. So the Farmer has to sit and wait until the Dealership Repairman shows up. In Farming, Time is very important. Very. VERY

They're pretty good, actually. They're sharp and they're fast and usually on time. But there's always a delay of some sort and the expense isn't that bad but it isn't that good either. You have a battery take a shit and you can't replace it unless a Deere Mechanic enters the code or it won't restart. They're pretty good about it but it's still a PITA.

They gonna lose. Mostly. Don't under-estimate Deere. They're very big and they're very powerful. But they're just trying to get concessions at this point.
The diagnostic software has been pirated

I had Sears Craftsman 25 HP for my first one, but I decided to flip it backwards on myself while riding up a grade on my lawn one day out of sheer stupidity. I wasn't hurt but the hood was all bent and the engine smoked for a while. It was getting to be old (about 12 years or so), I then parked it on the street with a sign saying, "Free to a good home". It disappeared within hours. I then bought my current JD and was amazed at how much better I liked it. It was a Cadillac compared to my Sears Yugo.

I am not praising the white collar workers or attacking tradesmen

I am aware of all the examples you posted

Yes, even in the 70’s

When I was a little kid, our house was next to a large cotton field--the farmer rotated half the field in alfalfa and half in cotton every year to keep the soil healthy. But I was given my own little cotton sack when it came time to pull the cotton and received one dime for every time I filled it. It was hard work and the sharp edges of the cotton bolls pricked your fingers, but I was as proud of that dime as any kid would be proud of earning a hundred dollars today.

I remember the grown ups in the field with me--a good mix of Hispanic, 'anglo', a few black people I think. But I'm pretty sure all citizens of the USA. I don't remember any sort of automation being used other than the truck pulling the large cotton trailer that we filled up to go to the gin.

But we know a lot of farmers and have some in our family. These are all white folks and they all still know how to drive the tractor, use the plow, harrow, wheat driller etc. and do. My hubbie used to supplement our income by drilling wheat for farmer friends.

Automation has indeed eliminated a lot of jobs Americans, whatever their skin color, used to do. And no doubt will continue to do so.

But to make it a racist thing is just dumb. Thank you for illustrating that.

Black People were brought here to be laborers, nothing more. They were forced to worked in the fields for long hours. They didn't like it and I don't blame them. They also didn't like the people making them do it a whole lot. Understandable.

So whatever the people forcing them do hard field work.... Whatever those people (The Plantatation owners) liked, Black People didn't. Makes sense to me.

As an example, the Romans were big on bathing and Baths. They ruled over Britain for many centuries and when the Brits finally ran them off, they haven't take a bath since.

No offense ... but Mexicans were allowed to come to the United States and do migrant labor when this film was made ... they wouldn't have been illegal at the time ... Bracero Program - Wikipedia ... too many gringos were off to war, so we had to bring in the brownies to pick our crops ... they wouldn't have used brownies in the film because that's would be a good way to get your ass hauled in front of Senator Joe McCarthy ...

Have you ever done field work? ...

Have you ever done field work? ...
Yes

I have “stomped” cotton in Westt Texas and bailed hay in East Texas

I dont Object to guest workers from Mexico on a seasonal basis

But not their entire famiy as permeant settlers

And come to think of it I prefer automation to foreign guest workers

The Romans or the Brits.
Swimming in the rivers in the UK is illegal. It leaves rings around the bridge abutments.

Know how to clear a Swimming Pool in Britain? Throw a bar of soap in it

All in good fun...... mostly
