If you tune into Victor Davis Hanson on YouTube or podcasts he will say pretty much the same thing you didMy grandpa owned a "Fig Ranch" (why they called it a ranch, I don't know). My grandpa, grandma, dad, 3 uncles, and 1 aunt grew, harvested, boxed or canned, transported, and sold all the figs as a family unit without any outside help. This was in Modesto, CA which was a farming town with the majority of the population (90+ %) being White. Today, Whites make up around 35% of the population with Hispanics making up 45% (many of whom don't know a lick of English).
According to my dad, it was a very low crime area when he was growing up. Today it's 303.2 on the crime index with the national average being 235.3. In other words, it's a good place to avoid.
If I owned a small farm, I'd do the work myself.
