When white people used to do farm work

Not much farm work in the northern states in the winter.

White, brown, grey, well I am kind of partial to blue, and nothing a paintjob cannot fix. Engineering, IT and mechanic might be better fields to plow in career options.

You mean combines?
No, I mean above 50 - 75 HP.

Deere is one of the biggest Companies in the world and has some of the best engineers (for that kind of work). Deere saved GM and Detroit Diesel's ass a few decades ago. Deere is big. They could buy Generic Motors and Ford combined.

But they don't spend a lot of time and effort on the CUTs (compactutilitytractor) IMHO. They don't even bother using their own engines until they reach 48 HP. Nor on their Zero Turns or much of anything else. Deere makes some of the best kick-ass equipment. Small stuff? You need to shop and you need to educate yourself

If you want a smallish to medium CUT you want to look at Kubota or Kioti. Zero Trun, I'd look at Bad Boy. Not giving recommendations. Your call.

The one thing Deere has going for them that nobody can touch is their Dealership program. If Deere made it 100 years ago, you can still get parts for it. Kubota is good but they're almost as expensive as Deere. Kioti is good but they have their (minor) problems.

Personally, I wouldn't even look at (NEW) Deere unless I was gonna spend $75k. Just my $.02 and worth even less.

Depends on the farm. My uncle had a dairy farm in MA. Hard work 24/7, 365.
The 'central sands' region of Wisconsin is mainly irrigated vegetable farms. Most migrant workers leave for the winter.

My uncle was a dairy farmer and hired migrants but also hired local kids for summer work. None of the migrants worked the dairy operations but did other field work. His migrant workers and he were loyal to each other, almost like family.

There is no shame in learning a trade and getting a woman to date isn't a problem either.
She’s probably more sensible that a college girl with a ring in her nose

Their big stuff is hard to beat. But if you buy a CUT, expect to pay too much and get too little.
Beware of John Deere

They have been preventing owners of their newest tractors from doing any service on their own equipment

Its a huge controversy that is costing the company good will and sales

I once dated a girl who to me was 'college bound'. She was beautiful, smart, and classy. But she wanted me, a meat cutter by trade. I found out that her father worked for Oscar Meyer, a meat packing plant, which explained it. She wanted the same modest life that her parents enjoyed. College wasn't important to her.

Of course there are many great girls to be found

Some of them even attend college

The problem is that too many men are basically bums

The trick is matching good with good

Right To Repair.

Generic Motors, OnStar®, shit be upon them, is who started all that crap. But because they produce Grocery-Getters, they got shot down by DoT. Hard.

Deere is fighting it but they're gonna lose. I see their point. Today's Farm Equipment isn't like your Grand Pappy's. They're using Satellite systems and electronics not even seen on $800k Ferarri's

OTOH, A piece of equipment breaks down in the field and is easily repairable by Farmer John but the Computer will shut the equipment down if someone other than John Deere Repairman touches it. Yes, it knows when it's being worked on. And a code has to be entered by a Deere Repairman with a Deere Diagnostic Machine or it won't start. So the Farmer has to sit and wait until the Dealership Repairman shows up. In Farming, Time is very important. Very. VERY

They're pretty good, actually. They're sharp and they're fast and usually on time. But there's always a delay of some sort and the expense isn't that bad but it isn't that good either. You have a battery take a shit and you can't replace it unless a Deere Mechanic enters the code or it won't restart. They're pretty good about it but it's still a PITA.

They gonna lose. Mostly. Don't under-estimate Deere. They're very big and they're very powerful. But they're just trying to get concessions at this point.

I have a Deere lawn mower and the guy told me it was made in America.

For some reason I had to pull the front wheels and dam if it didn't say (neatly tucked away) Made in China.
That part was made in China. But it's still mostly made in America. Probably North Carolina if it's a higher end. If it says 'John Deere' on it, it's made by John Deere. Maybe not all the parts are, but mostly.

In the old days, Yanmar (Japan) made some of their stuff but no more that I'm aware of. And Yanmar makes quality. They still make the majority of Deere Engines (almost ALL on their tractors) up to 48HP. In the really big, REAL Big Equipment, they use a Few Cummins Engines here and there. Cummins is badass

My John Deere lawn tractor is made here in Greenville, TN. FYI Wiki says JD has no lawn mowers built in China. They have plants all over the world for foreign commercial and agricultural use.

I got NC and TN confused. I don't know why but I do that all the time. But thanks for the information. Yes, it is Greenville TN

For sure but the guy didn't tell me. I regret buying it and wish I had bought a Husky.

The Deere customer service was great...as they delivered it and my salemen showed me how to use it.

China thing doesn't bother me as much him not telling me it will shut off if the angle is to much.

In other words it was for rich people who have nice level lawns.

BTW: I (WE) paid $200 extra for a KZ motor over the B&S.
