I'm not going to pretend to think people know how the world works. Most people probably don't even know what a community health center or EMTALA is. Clearly many of the folks in this thread have been surprised by what they've learned in the past week.
That doesn't change the context or meaning of what Obama said. He (and Congress) was proposing large expansions of public insurance (Medicaid) and private insurance (through Exchanges) and the talking point of the day was that subsidized insurance would now, for the first time, be available to illegal immigrants. It isn't, as the legislation is extremely strict on that--not only can illegals not get subsidized insurance (or qualify for Medicaid), they can't even buy unsubsidized coverage through Exchanges. That's what Obama said and that's what Wilson said he was lying about. Yet he wasn't.
I realize you folks are shocked--shocked!--that community health centers don't necessarily demand papers at the door and thus building more of them to build delivery system capacity is a grave offense. But don't pretend you were somehow bamboozled.
