I'm not convinced that it is a human life from the moment of conception (given that it doesn't have a brain, for example), but at some point during pregnancy, I believe it qualifies as a human life.

If people are merely arguing that it is a "potential life" from the moment of conception, then preventing a potential life from coming into existence obviously isn't the same as taking a life from existence. (If that was true, then if a person only has 2 children when they have the ability to have 5 means they should be charged with 3 counts of murder, and we know that is absurd).

A single cell doing its functions is the definition of life. If that cell is human then it's human life.

I go with conception, but I do support several reforms to make abortion a non-issue. If we funded orphanages better and streamlined the adoption process while paying for the medical costs associated with birth, few women would need an abortion at that point. You could reduce it down to the cases where it is a medical necessity.

I recall comedian Bill Burr talking about abortion. His personal stance was that he had no opinion either way, but said, "If I put together all of the ingredients to make a cake and put it in the oven and then a few minutes later, you came along, took it out of the oven and threw it on the floor, claiming it wasn't a cake yet, I would respond with, it would have been a cake if you had left it in the damn oven."
Anyway, I have mixed opinions on the matter. If the potential mother is a drug addled street walker, she should be allowed to get rid of it, for the kid's sake.
If the potential mother is a minor and victim of rape or incest, she should be able to get rid of it, otherwise, you are subjecting her to "cruel and unusual punishment," carrying that daily reminder of what had occurred.
If the potential mother is dirt poor and can't provide a decent living for the kid, she should either get rid of it or allow it to be born and then be adopted. Ultimately, she should just keep her legs together or make sure the men have "protection."
If the potential mother is of age and could support it if she needed to, then she should have it and take care of it or allow it to be adopted.

I might be able to help you with this. However, I would rather approach it slowly, one step at a time, to see where we agree and maybe start to disagree.

My first question for you is, "were you conceived?"

Right, so that's the argument that it's a potential life, not that it actually is a human life. So by the same logic, a sperm cell can potentially result in a human life, but that doesn't mean that a person using a condom should be charged with murder.

Potato Biden has no brain and people consider him as being alive.

how about we talk sensibly??

life is life .. human life begins at conception .. an abortion at any stage ends human life .

Semantically? "Baby" is probably not the most descriptive word for a child that is only in the zygote stage of their life, growth and development.

That said, biologically (and even morally for some) it is a "baby" in the sense that it is the child/ offspring of the biological "parents" who created it.
