It’s Jaws were as powerful as any that lived

The evolution of faster sharks would eventually outcompete them
Some rare types of fish called lobe / lung fish ??
Were able to escape the death of the ocean and live in smaller inland ponds
They eventually made their way to the new land and became amphibians

Here is a small excerpt from a chart I made a few years ago. Out of the Cambrian explosion came the age of invertebrates. From that came the vertebrates beginning with the fishes which covered most of the Devonian and Carboniferous periods leading into the age of reptiles (meaning they dominated life on the planet). This all happened during the Karoo ice age during which there was a mild extinction event when the carboniferous rain forests collapsed.
