The Medal of Honor Recipient Erased in the Pentagon's DEI Purge

“Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the U.S. military to remove diversity-related content in accordance with President Donald Trump's executive order to end diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs across the federal government. Hegseth's order reportedly gave the Pentagon a deadline of Wednesday, March 5, to complete the task, but it looks as though the hasty effort had the unwanted side effect of erasing some of America's greatest heroes -- including at least one Medal of Honor recipient from World War II.
[…]
Gonsalves was a forward observer for the battalion, directing fire toward the enemy's mountain stronghold on the Motobu Peninsula, amid a hail of rifle fire, grenades and mortars. As the Marines advanced, the batteries needed to move closer to the front line to provide deadlier, more accurate artillery fire. Along with another Marine, he followed one of his officers up a hill to lay down telephone lines so they could communicate with Marines farther back.

As the group approached the front, a Japanese grenade landed in their midst. Without hesitation or reservation, Gonsalves threw himself on it. He absorbed the full blast and fragmentation, saving his comrades who all emerged unharmed.

For his actions to protect his fellow Marines, President Harry S. Truman awarded him a posthumous Medal of Honor, which was presented to his family in San Francisco on June 19, 1946.”

Trump should lose the support of every veteran.

This is out and out racism of the worst kind. This man gave his life for his country, but because he is NOT white, they erase him.

He was erased because this is the inneficient way government works with any mandate. "One size fits all"type actions make these mistakes. It should and WILL be corrected.

It was not done because non whites are disliked. This earns you a Fake News medal of honor. nice try though.

This one too, and thank you for your service.
.

And thank you for yours.

What's so cool about the VA is whenever I need to speak to them on the phone, as my husband's widow, they always thank me for my husband's service.

The VA cemetery where he's buried near me is absolutely beautiful. I encourage all Veterans to visit the place if they're here on vacation in SE South Dakota. The prairie breezes are a beautiful testament.

Who GAD? Hegseth isn't qualified to be Sec Def and the guy he fired was replaced by a less qualified white man. So none of this is about merit.

BULLSHIT! He was erased because he wasn't white. It's time you either admitted your racism or stop denying the white racism that still exists.

So many questions. This is so fake it's pathetic. I'd say it's a complete out and out lie.

What database?
How does one identify a record in a database as 'DEI'?
What was the criteria used to identify and supposedly 'flag' a record for deletion?
How was the record 'flagged'?
According to who?
How is data even remotely 'DEI'? DEI is a practice for hiring or including individuals, it has nothing to do with inanimate objects.

This whole article is a complete scam.

Oh, stop.

What are you trying to accomplish here?

I've NEVER seen you change anyone's mind, so I have to conclude that either you are here to whine or to make a living. People who are here for either of those reasons just bore everyone else.

What proof do you have of it being fake, other you just saying it is

First of all, I see the man who lost his medal of honor as a hero, as does the rest of us. Secondly there is no reason for me to admit your imagined racism, and then lets see. there were 41 Hispanic American recipients of the medal of honor, 87 given to African Americans, and 22 given to native Americans.
How many of those have been cancelled because white people dont like non whites? You need to have some real proof. This is most likely a one off mistake. Show a pattern of this and it becomes a different discussion.
