How long have they been doing this? I don't think even the EU countries restrict travel like this

As far as I know every highway leading into California there is eventually (sometimes a few miles into the state) a station where all vehicles must stop. They always ask if you have any fruit, if you say no, they wave you on. It's been this way for as long as I can remember.

California still likes to pretend they produce something besides almonds for China and porn.

It's almost impossible to decipher what's going on in that video - it says something about stopping but the driver is moving the entire time and never comes to a stop, nor does anybody else on the road as far as I can determine. Can you provide some context?

In the land of fruit and nuts, there's bound to be fruit sitting in a lot of the cars.

I guess I'm used to Michigan/Ohio/Indiana. I THOUGHT we were the UNITED States

Agriculture check point....happens all the time. Sometimes they WILL stop you and simply ask if you have any fresh fruit and vegetables you are bringing into CA. The fruit fly is a serious serious problem.

Most of the comments agree with you. They said it's about agriculture and tell him he needs to get out more. I've never been to California either and I'm not used to being stopped like I'm going to Mexico

California is the 5th richest country in the world.

California has the same population as Canada but California has twice the GDP that Canada has.

Californian tax dollars are paid into the federal treasury and your state gets a welfare payment of California dollars. Mostly likely.

Well you would be checked, and if you are or have fruits or nuts you might not ever visit us.

One time shortly after 9/11 I was traveling on highway 97 entering Cali from Oregon in a motorhome. I told them I did have a couple of bananas on board.
They had me stop my engine, and they came on board with guns and dogs, and took the opportunity to look in drawers and such.
I wasn't happy, but since it was right after 9/11 I just figured at the time this was how it was going to be in a post-9/11 world.
