When Blue Is Actually Red

Amy McGrath, centrist and retired Marine Corps Lt. Colonel, has become the Democrats’ nominee for U.S. Senate in Kentucky.

Running against progressive state Sen. Charles Booker in the primary, McGrath’s campaign raised $41 million to Booker’s $800,000. She was the choice of the Democratic elders, and the wealthy political contributors across the country. But even with all those advantages, McGrath’s win was far from a mandate from Democratic voters in Kentucky.

However, as a centrist, during her years as a rank-and-file voter, it’s obvious her political choices split between Democratic centrists and Republican candidates. Add the support she received from the Democratic establishment coupled with so much money donated to her campaign by the fat cats, it’s more than evident her loyalties, as U.S. Senator, will be with Big Business and the billionaire class.

Should she win in the November election, the Republican Party will lose Moscow Mitch’s Senate seat to the Democrats, but her Senate voting record will reflect the same dedication to the very rich and corporate interests as Moscow Mitch. Her constituents, on the other hand, will continued to get screwed, just as they did by Moscow Mitch.

Her views only seem somewhat Party of the Rump to you. She is actually walking a fine line. She's an Eisenhower Republican that you would call a Communist, Marxist, Socialist and Traitor. I like her.

I don't know anything about her, other than what is in the op (looked up where she and her opponent stood on issues while writing this), and that sounds fine to me. If she actually wins, I'd much rather see her in the Senate than her opponent. Don't get me wrong, I really like Cocaine Mitch and wouldn't vote for her, but she seems the more sensible choice for Kentucky.
I find the idea of ideological purity ludicrous and somewhat disturbing. It seems people don't understand a Republican or Democrat running for office in New York can't win if they campaign like their constituency is the same as that in Alabama.

She garnered the votes from small towns while Booker won over with the 2 biggest cities.
Congrats to Amy. Now let's hope she can take down crooked old Moscow Mitch.

“I’m humbled that Kentucky Democrats have nominated me to take on Mitch McConnell in the general election and can’t wait to get started in sending him into retirement and finally draining the toxic Washington political swamp that he built.
I want to congratulate Charles Booker for his very impressive result, and also to Mike Broihier for stepping into this arena and making his passionate voice and ideas heard. I am proud to have competed against these men and, undoubtedly, doing so made me a better candidate. I hope I can rely on them for their help, guidance and advice for the fight ahead of us."
