Do you have to be the greatest singer in the whole world or should it just be a fun activity no matter what you sound like? This was a conversation that just came up today and I was wondering what everybody thought.

I love Karaoke! Most of the bars I've sung in have a range of singers most of whom are not good, but it does not matter. It's just for fun, no judges no money. It takes some guts to step out there by yourself especially the first time but it's really fun.

Just one of the things I love about karaoke is that the kind of people who cause trouble in bars seem to be allergic. Never had trouble in over twenty years of faithful attendance. Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

For sure, just nice people who enjoy music and a good time.
Nice people (I'll freely admit), who can't sing sober, get drunk AF and start bellering like they're the next coming of Sinatra.....If we're really "lucky", the rest of the drunks in the bar will join in for the group midnight cat screeching.

Fuck that noise....The tips aren't worth the hostile aural invasion.

It SHOULD just be a fun activity, where it doesn't matter how good a singer you are. I took part in karaoke quite a bit when I was younger, I had a pretty decent voice. I could sing Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley songs. I entered a few contests and almost won. This was in Arizona, 15-20 years ago. I've done karaoke just a handful of times since moving back to Indiana. I haven't done it since getting over COVID a few years ago. I'm not sure I could hit the high notes like I used to do. So yes, it should be fun and not taken too seriously.

It depends, but I agree it can get pretty painful especially if it's a long song with a REALLY bad singer.

I can still reliably hit that high note on "only the lonely".

It's seriously painful when it's a group "sing", which is what it always degenerates to at my bar.

Love my peeps like crazy...They're all very good to me....They can't sing and I'm out.

The Karaoke contests are fun, usually at least everyone can carry a tune.

Finally did karaoke in 2019 with co-workers in a private room (Round1). Good times were had.

My playlist:
Our Lips are Sealed - The Go-Go's
I'm Too Sexy - Right Said Fred
Take On Me - a-ha
(yes, I hit the high note)

and a duet: Uptown Girl - Billy Joel

Some people in my group were too shy to do it, but I overcame my natural shyness and dived into my innermost diva. :113:

Food (pizza, chicken wings) were good too.
