Whats wrong with education from teachers point of view

I often clash with the public teachers on this forum

They know who they are and what we disagree about

But the teachers on this video have valid complaints and my sympathy

The reason we have a teacher shortage is how difficult the job is because our culture has declined so much

And its getting worse

If the teachers think parents are a problem now, wait until the out of control children in the schools today grow up and have children of their own

Because conditions can and probably will get worse

Funny thing is, the teachers were saying the same shit about my generation fifty years ago.

Much of what is called education is just passing on information. Interesting but of little value.

This is not political. It's terrible parenting and a culture of "victimology". We now have parents writing up special ed plans on SUSPECTED "disabilities"....things like anxiety and sensory issues, whatever those may be. And then the parents dictate the very phrases we must use with their children.

Our local school system is just too convoluted these days IMHO. First, we have school choice which means your kids can go to any school they want based on availability (extra space is allocated on a lottery system if it isn't the child's designated district school); add to that every school has a specialty studies program within it that you have to apply for and each of those specialty studies programs is assigned to one school at that bracket so say if your kid wants to be in the specialty math program then then have to go to X elementary, Y Middle, a Z high school. A couple of the specialty programs don't even meet at traditional schools and if you do Governors school you take all your classes at the community college but if you are not in governors school and want to do dual enrollment you can do some of those classes at the community college and some at your high school; and to add on top of that, they are now building a K-12 school just for kids with autism. At the high school level, there are a couple specialty programs which to me should be taught at the STEM magnet school but if you enroll in them that is not where you go. One of them is engineering and the other is aeronautics. I truly pity the people whose job it is to be the Sorting Hat with so many people going in so many different directions.

U.S. history is a vital subject. But based on how little people know I suspect it isn't taught anymore.

Teachers can easily manage their classes. Just tell anyone who doesn't want to learn to leave. They can wait in the gym for their next class or just go home.

Mostly, from what I have seen, the children are indulged and so completely undisciplined, so the parents pursue a 504 to make up for the lack. Mind you: you don't even need a DIAGNOSIS for a 504. It can be "suspected".

Right. All us teachers have decided we have "suspected anxiety and stress" and so need a two hour nap block in the afternoon.

That's the level of ridiculousness I'm talking about here....

It began to go to hell in the 1960's. In the 1950's none of these problems existed where I went to school. Of course half of my male teachers were WW2 combat vets, and the female teachers were just as tough. Young teachers today don't have the stomach for discipling rowdy students. They're barely out of high school themselves. We need teachers that have successfully raised their family and are experienced in life. Younger teachers don't command respect.

I retire very, very, VERY soon....and I would love to tell many of these parents they NEED to homeschool. They want micromanagement over every aspect of their child's day anyway. GREAT. Homeschool, please

Rowdy kids need to be removed from the classroom. It worked in my generation; it will work today. Leaving rotten apples in the barrel doesn't work.

Not our problem. It's THEIR problem.

This is the worst parenting I have seen in my entire 32 year career. When we call bc a child is sick or out of control, we have parents tell us the child is not THEIR child from 8-4. During those hours, it's OUR child.

No ma'am. No ma'am. I didn't birth the child, name the child, etc. This is YOUR child.
