When the Founders created this nation, they did so with the idea that people would govern themselves. If most of us focused on fixing ourselves, and then moving one step further each chance we got, we would have far fewer problems than we currently have.

Focus on the self might have actually worked when the world was vast and the population was small (although conquered natives might beg to differ). It's not that way any longer.

The closer something or someone is to me the more important it is to me. I can't fix the worlds problems. I have little control on that front, but I do have a chance to fix things closer to me.
