What’s happening? Alarming poll finds that half of Americans do not care about the World Cup

Local bar here was packed for USA v Australia

I love the “believe in miracles” commercial with Mike Eruzione

What is this cup of the world?
Is that something everyone their nasty lips on and drinks out of?

Honestly JG, I had no idea the World Cup pertained to soccer, but I would have thought it a game, like the super bowl, I never imagined that weeks later, they'd still be playing the damned thing on Fox preempting better programming.

I checked it out---- just looked like a bunch of guys running around the field kicking a ball.

The World Cup sure seems to be giving America some good reviews around the world. Funny how foreigners who "hate" America love it when they actually get here and experience it for themselves.

This American who lives on the UK has over 300 videos on the US and UK. This video short covers the Scots in Boston and the English in Dallas -

The World Cup 2026 begins today and, according to a new poll, many Americans don't really care.

More than 4 in 10 American respondents to a new poll from Emerson College said they weren't interested in this year's tournament.

One American interviewed said, "Soccer? World Cup? Isn't that, that obscure game that involves adults aimlessly kicking a ball back and forth to each other for 90 minutes, but if someone actually scores a goal or two while you sit and watch the grass on the field as they play, that announcer yells and goes nuts screaming, "Goal"!!! a few times during the game that something actually happens of interest?

Another interviewed said, "I don't watch, not because I'm homophobic, it's just that I don't like the sport is all, so please don't judge me."

Then another person interviewed chimed in saying, "The reason America never has a good team in the past at these World Cup events is probably because none of the players have actually played before and therefore don't even know what the rules of the sport are when they arrive at the World Cup to play."

No word yet on whether the officials of the World Cup can find another country that could care less about soccer than in the US, but they are trying. Currently a stadium is being built in Antarctica for a possible destination for the future World Cup. However, it is rumored that penguins are crazy about the sport just like the rest of the world is crazy about the sport. If so, the even may have to be moved back to the United States as a result.

Looks like 4 in 10 Americans are pissed off being shown by football supporters how to have fun, party, and not be as dull as dish water!!

It's just true.
I've never cared one whit for it. My grandkids sort of/kind of like it and it's great exercise.
But any sport that can go 90 minutes and end in a 0-0 tie doesn't interest me.
.

I watched one game while in England, mainly because my hosts' son was a minor league coach.

It was loud.

.

Let’s be blunt, most of the United States has never cared about soccer.
I have tried to watch World Cup Soccer
Just too boring

They make so little effort to advance the ball towards the goal.

They seem to play not to lose

Ever see the devastation when one player kicks another in the heel of his shoe?
Ten minutes later the trauma surgeons have usually helped the victim enough that he might be able to remain in the game.
It’s a medical marvel!

In early rounds the underdog team is often rewarded for playing to a draw with a better team. This incentivizes a nil-nil game and removes any potential incentive for an open exciting match. That’s lame.
Americans prefer leaving a game where there is a glorious winner and a crestfallen loser.

A good buddy of mine took his family to a soccer game when they were visiting England a few months ago. He did say the noise factor was impressive.
The fans are more interesting than the game
