The most interesting feature of the Pashtuns is the darkening of the eyes. I think this is not just homosexual makeup or just decoration. Any kind of makeup in a historical perspective is an attempt to impersonate other people. Regular female makeup also has this semantics. Even in our time, facial makeup is mainly reduced to giving the face more "Turanian" features: darkening the eyes, eyebrows, drawing dark circles around the eyes, all blondes do it, and the Pashtuns do about the same.

Apparently the darkness around the eyes was a hallmark of the old Aryan and Turanian aristocracy, so the Pashtuns tried to imitate them, hence this tradition originated.

A similar phenomenon can be observed in the Tajik women tradition of eyebrow dyeing. Contrary to European tastes, they make wide, sometimes solid eyebrows. This was obviously done to imitate the Persians or Arabs who came to the territory of Sogdiana, Margiana and Bolkh. The modern language of Tajiks is also inherited from the Parsis of the Sassanid period, their native language is Indo-Aryan.

And not only they, but in general many of the Muslims are engaged in this. Apparently this is common mainly in the region of Middle East. They do not just rudely make "bruises" around the eyes, they carefully let them down, like women who "make them look beautiful"

Good point about Islam and "submission", but any religion that believes in an after life, has to also then believe we each have an immortal soul that is superior to us in our physical bodies. So prayers to Allah can be towards our own divine and immortal soul. Instead of the outer communication to a separate entity, it could be inward to our own higher self, much like Hindi contemplation.
But let us not forget Salam, meaning that Islam is also the religion of peace.
There are no passages in the Quran that promote violence except in defense.

The concepts of "ancient Greek" and "Persian" culture do not mean anything. Olympic Greece and Achaemenid "Persia" was a culture of warriors, Macedonian Greek and Persia was a culture of homosexuals and slaves. And the Islamists adore Al Iskander. The masculinity of the peoples of Attila and Genghis Khan is not to their liking.

PICKTHALL version. For reference purposes----try the YUSUF ALI.
The islamic 'rules' of warfare are theoretically enlightened just as the
dhimmi status is theoretically benevolent and just as being a Serf
on the estate of a Russian aristocrat was a terrific life. Life was great
for the HELOTS of Sparta too. There is some mention of not killing
women, children and elderly infirm-----but those suggestions are
observed only in the breach. Another nice idea mentioned in the
koran is-----don't knock down the fruit trees----that one was lifted
from the talmud. The lucky children (kids with no pubic hair) and women who are not murdered are enslaved. Historically, the
glorious age of islamic conquest was galvanized by starvation
sieges. Well---not so historic-----something like two million
Biafran children starved to death and were left to rot in the sun,
