The civil war the Republicans are fighting will result in less support for that party. That's an inevitability. Many Republicans have ignored demography and that is to their peril. We can't make angry white men fast enough to balance the fact that this nation is, or will soon be, 'majority minority'.

The most extreme right wingers have chosen to willfully ignore facts. They are betting their party's future on what may become a pipedream: the failure of Obamacare. The extremists in the GOP have a blind spot where history is concerned. Roll outs of federal programs are often plagued with problems. Medicare Part D the most recent among them. But after the system gets running and works out the kinks, Americans become very supportive of them.

Back in the 1970s the Democrat Party was hijacked by extremists on the Left. Only the disaster of Watergate made the election of Jimmy Carter possible. Jerry Ford's WIN buttons and pardon of Nixon proved so unpopular that even the amiable and capable Ford could not hold the White House as an incumbent. But after 1980, the Republicans could write their own tickets. The Democrats could not field a viable national candidate.

The Tea Party faction has fire that throws heat, but no light. The are adept at picking a fight, but can not win one. If the Republicans want to form a true coalition, they must stop the ideology of exclusion brought by the Tea Party extremists.

The Tea Party faction is being cozied up to by the wedge issue morons: Social Conservatives. Tea Party faction members are thankful for what they see as 'support' from the SoCons and further, they seem oblivious to the damage wrought by the SoCons.

Bedroom issues like same sex marriage and family planning demonstrate the exclusive nature of such ridged politics. Inflexibility, willful ignorance and ideological zeal will wreck the Republicans. Tolerance, statesmanship and inclusiveness will save them. The problem is, of course, the Tea Party factions refusal to be tolerant, statesmanlike and inclusive.

Actually, I am still a registered Republican in the State of New Jersey and have never voted a straight ticket in my life. I voted for Reagan and Daddy Bush four times. I left the party when they took a radical turn to the far right in the mid 90s. Haven't looked back since

They have, the GOP controlled house has passed several budget bills and other legislation that would help minorites, Reid has not let a single bill get to the floor of the senate for a vote.

The ACA was passed without any open discussion, no GOP amendments were allowed to reach the floor for vote. They had many good ideas, but the dems blocked them and forced a terrible piece of legislation up the collective asses of americans.
