Judge blocks subpoenas in criminal probe of Fed Chair Jerome Powell

A federal judge has blocked subpoenas issued to the Federal Reserve as part of a criminal investigation of its chair, Jerome Powell, by the prosecutors in the office of U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., Jeanine Pirro, a court filing showed Friday.

Pirro is set to give an update on the probe of Jerome Powell on Friday afternoon.

Pirro’s planned statement comes as Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., has vowed to continue a blockage of President Donald Trump’s nominee to replace Powell, Kevin Warsh, as chair. Tillis has said he will not lift that block until the investigation of Powell is resolved.

Powell has said he learned he was under investigation by Pirro’s office, ostensibly in connection with pricey renovations of the Federal Reserve headquarters, and his testimony to the Senate Banking Committee about that project.

Will she take to the podium and declare the judge is a radical leftist? Declare this is a miscarriage of justice? Resign from her position after yet another failed prosecution of someone trump doesn't like? Forfeit her license to practice law?

Or will she try to find another person to unjustifiably prosecute?

In any event, this is good news for Don's nominee to be the next Fed chairman since Sen. Tillis has a hold on the vote until the Powell matter is concluded.

Trump tried to punish Powell because Powell didn't obey on interest rates.

Trump's DOJ is an absolute embarassment. Like everything else.

The Orange Embarrassment continues.

Judge blocks subpoenas against Fed Chair Jerome Powell, citing 'essentially zero evidence'

"A mountain of evidence suggests that the Government served these subpoenas on the Board to pressure its Chair into voting for lower interest rates or resigning," Judge James Boasberg, the chief judge on the U.S. District Court for Washington, D.C., wrote in a court filing.

Boasberg continued: "On the other side of the scale, the Government has produced essentially zero evidence to suspect Chair Powell of a crime; indeed, its justifications are so thin and unsubstantiated that the Court can only conclude that they are pretextual."

"The Court therefore finds that the subpoenas were issued for an improper purpose and will quash them," the order states.

“Did prosecutors issue those subpoenas for a proper purpose? The Court finds that they did not,” Boasberg wrote in the decision in U.S. District Court in D.C., which was dated Wednesday, but unsealed on Friday.

“There is abundant evidence that the subpoenas’ dominant (if not sole) purpose is to harass and pressure Powell either to yield to the President or to resign and make way for a Fed Chair who will,” the judge wrote.

Jeanine is doing her best to be the next Lindsey Halligan.

What will she do? Unless they close down all the liquor stores near her she'll keep having plenty to do.

Of course it's ******* Boasberg.

Your guys go to hack in black.

She's going to appeal. Imagine my surprise.

The lack of competence at Trump's DOJ is staggering. This administration is great at one thing, failure. Between Bondi, Halligan and Piero, you have to wonder how any of them actually earned a law degree. They are falling all over themselves trying to carry out Trump's wishes, which have no legal basis whatsoever!

Bigly!!!

He is going to keep doing it until people stop listening to him. He is detrimental to the survival of what is left of the Republic and a diamond for the ugly head of the rising Communism. And his head by coincidence is poetic.

The scary thing is this doesn't matter. It doesn't matter to voters that this guy will just make shit up. They don't care.

Just another humiliating loss for the most shameless, obedient, incompetent and embarrassing DOJ ever.

It used to be that, if you were on their radar, it's time to worry. Now it's a badge of honor.
I just watched the brunette sock puppet's press conference denouncing the judge. Lots of trumpian sound and fury amounting to zero substance...............as always.

Well, they're the victim. Always. It was rigged 'n stuff.

So now, not only are people who venture into his orbit stained. Now the DOJ, the DHS and the Pentagon are as well.

The enablers deserve it. The departments do not.

Maybe poor Jeanine can find another "sandwich guy" to try her luck with.

So far, Trump's Fox hacks haven't worked out to well for him. :oops8:

<~~~~~~~~~~>
So, you see nothing suspicious or wrong in the Powell project being a Billion dollars in cost overruns?
Judge Jeanine Pirro explained it well today and will certainly appeal Judge Boasberg's decision to a higher court and will win.

Judge James Boasberg needs to be investigated and disbarred! He is intentionally obstructing the law!
In fact this is not the first time Boasberg has crossed swords with Trump and his administration.
Perhaps this will be the bridge too far for Boasberg and his obstruction of the Trump admin...

15th post
She'll figure it out.
The way she did when she tried to convict the guy who threw a Subway sandwich at a CBP officer? Or when she tried to indict the 6 congressmen who made a video explaining members of the military don't have to follow illegal orders?

Judge Boasberg made it clear the evidence, referring to trump's own words, makes it clear Powell's prosecution was done for the purposes of coercion, not enforcing the law.

We'll see how the appeal goes. We need this ended so Warsh can be confirmed as the new Fed chairman.

A $billion cost overrun for a small building is a lot of substance. That has to be corruption. Follow the money...

It isn't a billion $ cost over run.

There are a couple of very old buildings under the renovation project. Initial 2019 estimates were $1.9 Billion for both. Now estimates are $2.5 Billion to complete the work. 2.5-1.9 = 0.6 which is less than 1. So about .6 Billion or 600 Million.

The project has had:
  • Design changes for based on historical building preservation
  • Since the original estimate we had COVID which during the pandemic and post pandemic caused spikes in both material and labor costs
  • More remediation for toxic materials used in original construction such as asbestos and lead than was originally anticipated
  • More deep foundation work than was originally anticipated because - well - Washington was originally built in a swampy area

So the flat statement "there has to be corruption" is false. There are plenty of non-corruption factors that have come into play in an increase in 2026 of about 31.5% ($2.5 Billion current to $1.9 Billion in 2019) when about 24$% of that is due to post pandemic COVID cost increases in materials and labor.

This isn't about 4.5% cost increases per year over 7 years, it's about Trump being pissed that the FED did it's job as an independent agency and not just a rubber stamp for Trump Decree's.

The FED renovation is subject to OIG audit, one was conducted in 2021, and Chairman Powell has called for another to lay open the books to review.
