Probably the reason Arafat didn't sign a peace agreement when he was offered 98 percent of what he wanted. He wanted to save his own skin from his fellow Arabs.

What the Palestinians and Arabs Think of Kerry's New Ideas
by Khaled Abu Toameh • December 27, 2013 at 5:00 am

It is hard to see how Abbas would be able to retract his position now that the Arab League has also rejected Kerry's ideas. Kerry will now have to launch a new diplomatic campaign to convince the Arab League to change its position. And for the Arab countries to do that really would take a miracle.

The Palestinian Authority does not like U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's latest ideas for peace between the Palestinians and Israelis.

The Palestinians especially do not like Kerry's proposal that Israel maintain a military presence in the Jordan Valley if and when a Palestinian state is established next to Israel.

It is not surprising.

The Palestinian Authority is the cause of failure in peace talks, always have been and always will be.

Kerry really needs to make a better offer. The Palestinians are not buying his crap.

If they don't start talking and stop acting like spoilt brats they could find agreements made without them. It would not take much to spark a major military offensive in the M.E. and see the muslims go to war with each other. The outcome would be the west calling the shots and making the rules after they went in and cleaned up the mess.

Sally, et al,

I've mentioned this a number of times.

It is hard to see how Abbas would be able to retract his position now that the Arab League has also rejected Kerry's ideas. Kerry will now have to launch a new diplomatic campaign to convince the Arab League to change its position. And for the Arab countries to do that really would take a miracle.

There is an agenda in the underpinning of the Arab League position.

The Arab League does not, necessarily want to see the conflict resolved. They do not want to see it expand into another regional wide conflict in the conventional sense; but they see no benefit in resolution or settlement.

And this latent agenda is not something that the US can overcome.

It serves no Arab Leadership or Ruling Elite to have the fundamentalist, Jihadist, and Fedayeen, to be running loose in the region.

Most Respectfully,

You are right on this point...The Sheiks, Dictators and Kings fear the Jihadists more than the Israelis...There is no doubt that the Palestinians are expendable fodder...

I'm not absolutely sure that they don't want a resolution to the 67 borders because this conflict plus the US misadventures in Iraq and Afghanistan are in fact the greatest producers of Jihadists for the Pan-Islamist concept.

Ironically if peace is settled (which I doubt because of Israeli greed.) then the Jihadist would turn their attention to Shia Iran.

It is not surprising.

The Palestinian Authority is the cause of failure in peace talks, always have been and always will be.

Caroline, you have to look deeper and realize that the Palestinians dance to the tune of Saudi Arabia via the Arab League.

Then let those two bodies sort it out. Nothing to do with Israel. If anyone thinks Israel is to blame for failure of peace talks they are very much mistaken.

pbel, et al,

It is very true, that the Arab League has had a tremendous influence on the political landscape that effects the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict; from a time - well before the Partition Plan.

It is not surprising.

And still today, the Arab League concurrence is considered a critical approval step in the official label applied to the Muslim Brotherhood.

The League Secretariat said:
The Arab League said on Monday it has officially informed member nations of Egypt's designation of the Muslim Brotherhood as a "terrorist group."

Rocco is correct. The Palestinians are expendable fodder. If they had any value their fellow Arabs would fight. Oh wait, they tried that in '48, '56, '67 and '73. How's that working for ya?

When are you going to stop supporting terrorism

5. Further recognizes the right of the Palestinian people to regain its rights by all means in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations;

The above phrase is a masterpiece of ambiguity. It could mean that the Palestinians have the right to use all means (including indiscriminate terror against civilians) to attain their rights, in accordance with the fact that the UN Charter supports self-determination. However, it could mean that they have the right to attain their rights only using means that are in accordance with the purposes and principles of the charter, which does not support war crimes. Though it is hard to believe, since at the time of adoption of the resolution, the PLO and other Palestinian groups were engaged in hijacking air planes and killing school children, the former interpretation may be the correct one.

The only deal that the Palestinians would agree to is the complete destruction of Israel and the mass murder of every Jew in the world, as this is what they have said in the past.

You DO understand that unless the Palestinians compromise, DEEPLY, they will get NONE of what they want, do you not?

Better to get SOME than to get NONE.

And, of course, the longer they wait to compromise, the less 'SOME' there is to be had.

Yes, rather like a petulant 5-year-old child; I want it all, even if that's not really possible.

It's the single most significant reason why they are where they are after 65 years of iincompetency and idiocy and petulance.

Not exactly the brightest crayons in the box.
