I made comments in the past saying I wished I wrestled but now I see it’s a brutal regiment of insane training
I was too uncoordinated and weak for football
I think wrestling would utterly kick my azz as they literally destroy you every practice with insane Cardio and live rolls and looks to grinding /
I assume football is similar is brutal warmups and regiment ?? Has anyone done both ??
Which is harder !?
I know unkotare will disagree with whatever I say but here goes. Wrestling is absolutely "harder" than football. You don't have to make a weight in football. You may only play Defense or Offense. So how often are you even on the field? And after each running play that takes 15 seconds eats up a minute on the clock. Point being, how much do you really play in a full game? Not much.
In wrestling, especially a tournament that you place in the top 3, you probably wrestle 4 or 5 times in one day. Do you understand how hard that is? 3 2 minute periods is 6 minutes. x 5 is 30 minutes of intense wrestling. Or if you are unkotare you spent most of the time fishing on your back or stomach. So I guess it does depend on the wrestler.
In practice wrestling with your buddies was fun. You get into groups of 3 and wrestle each other off and on with one guy taking a break. I hated the run. Boring. And a waste of time. How about we skip the run and just wrestle more. That's how you get in shape. Not by jogging around the cafeteria for 20 minutes before practice.
Anyways, in a Saturday tournament say the first guy you wrestle is good and you go the entire 6 minutes. You are exhausted and you have to wrestle again in a couple hours. So you go lay down in the bleachers and try to take a nap. Try to recoup before you have to go out and do it all over again. Then another match, then another, then probably the finals. It's been a long time I'm thinking it was three two minute rounds and it was 5 matches to get to the finals. Maybe it was 4. Fact is, I can't believe what great shape I was in.
I never wrestled until my sophomore year. I joined the team and by the end of the year I was varsity. Got my letter. Junior year I was all League. Senior year I was all state. Placed in the top 5. Wrestling got me into college. I tried to encourage my nephews to do it but they both pussed out. Now one of them is doing MMA. I said "idiot why didn't you try wrestling?" I guess they weren't ready back then.
