I think the ‘popular’ music is just so vapid and uninspiring that anyone with any musical appreciation can’t get too interested.

There’s no singing anymore. Everything’s rap or auto tune. And this monotone rap shit, it’s just atrocious. Third grader tweet level lyrics. Just a symptom of the dumbing down/third worlding of America.

I'm thinking maybe REO Speedwagon would still chart.

whats a hit?....something that sold a lot or one that didnt, but was still popular among the listeners and critics........because this LP got lots of praise but wasnt a big seller....

There is a ton of good music still today. It might largely not get played on commercial radio but its out there.

I'm rediscovering a lot of 70's music now, one band that I never fully appreciated was The Cars. Another band I never gave enough appreciation to was Styx. It's funny to me how they sound so much better today than they did when I listened to them on the radio or cassette tape (I remember listening to The Cars on an 8-track once)

The question reminds me of the movie Yesterday, where a guy wakes up in a world where The Beatles never existed.

There's no real way to know, but I'd guess that, if we're assuming that other than the band/album in question not having existed, all other music would remain the same, there are few, if any, albums from the past that would be popular today. Musical tastes and trends have changed. Even people who might love an 80s album if it was released today might just never hear it.

As far as "there's no singing anymore" and "everything's rap or auto tune", it depends on what you're listening to. There's a lot more than just pop or rap to choose from. :)

Journey with Steve Perry on lead vocals would still be great.

The 70's were the greatest decade in music history and that is unlikely to ever change. The 2nd half of the 60's were great, but for a full decade, you'll not match the 70's.

I'm thinking none of them would.

Times are different.

Elton John's stuff is still popular.

Take your pick

Rock music from the 60’s and 70’s is boss in advertising that appeals to consumers of all ages

Love that movie....Lily James pushes all my buttons for some odd reason. ;)

Today? I guess the best answer is, is there any current music like them now? I don't think hard rock, metal, Western even exists. Hard to find really good old crooners now. I don't even know if mega bands like Queen could be a thing.

I hate to say it, but maybe some of the better disco like Blondie. Madonna?
