Here are the holes in your theory which explain why it's not credible:

1. Demo explosives have to be directly attached to the beams they're designed to cut. They are shaped charges which don't just go boom, they direct all their energy in one direction and literally cut the beam, allowing collapse. They can't just be tossed into a corner closet and be expected to do their job. That means that anyone planting them is going to be cutting through floors and walls to expose the beams. There is a reason why buildings being demoed are mere shells with walls, floors and ceilings stripped away. IOW, you're not going to have one or two guys casually dropping charges around in the very busy buildings with no one seeing or hearing anything.

2. You're assuming that they would confidently leave "hot" explosives lying around for months or years, ready to be used at a moment's notice. Again, there's a reason that once explosives are ready to go off, no one is allowed anywhere near them. No, they would not leave something lying around that could go off on its own. One charge going off and the whole conspiracy falls apart.

3. Also, on the matter of leaving "hot" explosives lying around for months or years. Things happen, the building vibrates, things get bumped, animals chew wires. IOW, after months or years, you're going to have ignitors fail and explosives just not go off. We would see unexploded charges in the wreckage.

The charges themselves would not be very big, because a shaped charge doesn't really create a big boom. It's shaped to provide a large amount of energy to a small area, cutting through it. The problem, however, is that in order to be effective, it has to be placed directly on the beam it's designed to cut. That means floors, walls and ceilings have to be stripped away to expose the beam, and that's not going to go unnoticed. All we would need is for one maintenance worker or security guard to step forward and say, "You know, I do remember seeing a panel cut out of the wall and put back a little crooked on the 35th floor when I was doing my rounds. I remember it just didn't look right, but wasn't worried enough to report it", but there's crickets.
