Zone1 What is the difference between an American citizen and an American subject?

At one time you were expected to be a subject of a king or queen in the UK, you're allegiance was expected. That disappeared from the 1940's onwards. The only ones that have to do that are the MP's to take their seats in the commons.

But the "subject" was raised about Americans being subjects, I assume to a flag -

So as Americans still pledge allegiance, they're obviously subjects.

So the question is, are Americans subjects of the US flag, their government, or their president?
The Pledge of Allegiance doesn't have the force of law. Therefore, we're citizens, not subjects.

There are no subjects in the United States. We are a Constitutional Republic, and that form of government has citizens.

Monarchies have subjects.

You're subjects of a flag.

The monarchy is purely just constitutional, so King Charles is just head of state. You have a head of state, that person changes every year. Guess who your head of state is? At the moment, it's Major Mumbles. The speech you here what he wants his government to do, it's written by the Prime Minister. The only ones that pledge allegiance to the King/Queen are the members or parliament. You guys need to understand and read up on monarchies, you've zero idea. Unless someone wants to, no one pledges allegiance to King Charles.

I'm pro monarchy, but when Charles was crowned king and he asked for people to pledge allegiance, my answer was, "Feck off".

You guys force kids to pledge allegiance in a classroom. Is that a form of child abuse? So much resistance not to have religion, how dare they say a pray in assembly, but pledge allegiance to a flat or else.

A subject sees themself as a servant to the government. A citizen sees the government as THEIR servant.

You sound bitter that you were born in a lesser nation than the United States.

Your error has been explained to you. That you persist in it simply means you can't be taken seriously.
You are under the authority of a flag. You are subjects. It's been explained to you.

Now you get to explain how an inanimate object can wield authority.

Incoherent rambling in 3...2...1...
Now you get to explain how a constitutional monarchy can wield authority.

I have no obligation to defend a point I didn't make.

You, however, claimed Americans are subject to the authority of an inanimate object.

That is a point you made. Defend it.

The constitutional monarchy can't either, the King/Queen can only dissolve parliament. So Charles can only sack his subjects, the MP's, that's why they must pledge allegiance. But this won't sink into American skulls.

So by the same token of your logic, you are subjects of a flag.

Unlike some other speeches, such as the King's Speech at the State Opening of Parliament which is written by the government, the Christmas speech is a personal message written by the monarch with input from spouses and direct advisors.

The Monarch doesn't even tell the MP's what to do, all the Monarch can do is dissolve parliament, and open a new one. So come election time, Starmer will ask Charles to dissolve parliament in order to have an election, then Farage will go and ask Charles to open parliament via black rod because the Monarch is not allowed in the commons.

And Americans think the Monarchy rules over the citizens?? Bizarre and knowledge lacking. Probably one of the many indoctrinated myths they were taught as kids

Sooo...you don't know the difference between a human being and an inanimate object.
