Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, I figured it would be an interesting ethical discussion.

I've been thinking about the concept of prostitution since the recent accusations about Melania and her time as a model. We all know that having sex for money is prostitution. But what is it exactly about the act that makes it prostitution? What if the girl enjoys the sex, as is often the case in pornography? Is she still a whore? Or is she just a 'performer?' What differentiates pornography from prostitution?

Does it have to do with the trading of sexual favors for money?

Are strippers prostitutes if they are selling their body (as a sexual dance) for $20 in a club?

Seems to me that it has more to do with having sex with strangers when you don't really want to do it. But if that's the case, can this extend to any other situation? That is, doing something for the money when you don't really want to?

Take endorsement deals, for example. If you sell your face to another company for a fee, are you in the same sense 'prostituting' yourself if you don't like the company and just doing it for the money? What if you do like the company, does that change?

Your thoughts?

A prostitute is someone who gives false love for money, like the Pope.

Prostitution is an honest exchange of money for sex, in contrast to modern hookups which almost always include dishonesty. Prostitution is far superior to modern promiscuity. Prostitution is also recommended in the Old Testament as a preferable alternative to adultery: "For a prostitute’s fee is only a loaf of bread, but an adulteress goes after a precious life." - Proverbs 6:26

I feel that calling a slut a whore is an unjustified insult against prostitutes. There is no lower form of life than sluts. And many uses of "prostitute" or "whore" in the Bible are actually mistranslations that should read "slut" or "harlot" which is ambiguous like the Hebrew.

Not everyone is able to be a racist like you.

How cute, you found one more way to link the word "prostitution" to Melania Trump. Good for you.

For real prostitution, prostitution as a crime that has affected millions of people for decades, look to congress and the White House. Those are real whores and what they do is not a victimless crime...

The biggest form of prostitution is marriage.

Throughout the world, men take women to be their partners for the purpose of sex. In return, they provide the means for women to support themselves and their children.

What else would you cal that?

Gotta look at the definition first:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

prostitution
Examples
See more synonyms on Thesaurus.com
noun
1.
the act or practice of engaging in sexual intercourse for money.
2.
base or unworthy use, as of talent or ability.
Origin of prostitution

Late Latin
1545-1555
1545-55; < Late Latin prōstitūtiōn- (stem of prōstitūtiō). See prostitute, -ion

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Melania Trump and any babe married to a rich guy who married him for his money qualifies, yes.

I think that was your original question.

I suppose we also need to define sex:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

sex
coitus.

verb (used with object)
6. to ascertain the sex of, especially of newly-hatched chicks.
Verb phrases
7. sex up, Informal.
  1. to arouse sexually:
The only intent of that show was to sex up the audience.
  2. to increase the appeal of; to make more interesting, attractive, or exciting:
We've decided to sex up the movie with some battle scenes.
Idioms
8. to have sex, to engage in sexual intercourse.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ergo it would appear that if an act results in coitus then it is sex.

Sort of. Check this out...look at the #3 definition for prostitute:

noun
1. a woman who engages in sexual intercourse for money; whore; harlot.
2. a man who engages in sexual acts for money.
3. a person who willingly uses his or her talent or ability in a base and unworthy way, usually for money.

the definition of prostitute

So, this is the first time I've ever looked up the official definition for prostitute, and I'm sort of surprised to see this definition as it's what I was alluding to in my OP as far as things like endorsement deals. Interesting, yes?

It does seem that prostitution can extend beyond simply having sex for money.

Could this be why the divorce rate is hovering around 50% or whatever it is currently? Perhaps men unconsciously suspect that their marriage is nothing more than a formalized culturally accepted form of prostitution masquerading as a long-term monogamous commitment?

Or perhaps women unconsciously recognize this as well considering they are actually the ones more likely to file for divorce? Maybe they unconsciously suspect they've been sold a lie about marriage...

Interesting (and disturbing) point you brought up.

@everyone here

Oh by the way "doucheland" - a very good name for Germany meanwhile. Theme: "doucheland and sexwork" or "prostitution of the public opinion": On Saturday I watched in TV in Germany a children's hour. They explained children - no joke - what are "erogenous zones". And because they knew no children understands only a little about this theme they told them erogenous zones are the same zones as ticklish zones - what's a complete nonsense - and tried to explain the same time in TV for children homosexuality is as normal as heterosexuality. If a children should feel inconvenient, if someone touches it in the erogenous zones, then it should say this to the person, who touches the children in the erogenous zone. If I remember well, then 5 years ago we had imprisoned every sheitan who had tried to touch children in their not existing erogenous zones.

And if I think about now ... perhaps meanwhile there are indeed existing some very good reasons why to become a Muslim and to try to become desintegrated from the western world.
