The absolute best quote I've seen in a long time:

“Democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.” –James Bovard, Civil Libertarian (1994)

It's truly a shame that so many liberals and progressive want to turn this nation into one controlled by Mob Mentality. It seems to me just another way they seek to gather power into the hands of the few they consider to be the elite.

Mob mentality is Sil screaming that she doesn't get to vote on the rights of gays.

And we don't have a Democracy since they are a terrible idea, see above, and the Founders knew that.

Ted Nugent is a great example of GOP mob mentality in action...

What's truly a shame is that you and many others on the right have such a significant capacity to lie.

Liberals correctly understand that the United States is in fact a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy; liberals are the most ardent defenders on the rule of law.

Indeed, the evidence clearly indicates that conservatives are hostile to a republican form of government, where they disdain the rule of law and bemoan the courts 'violating' the 'will of the people' when they appropriately invalidate measures repugnant to the Constitution.

For example, then the courts invalidate measures designed to deny same-sex couples access to marriage law, conservatives claim that the 'will of the people' is being 'ignored,' and that voters are being 'disenfranchised.' when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.

And we hear the same inane claim from conservatives when the courts appropriately invalidate measures designed to deny women their privacy rights, deny immigrants their right to due process, and to compel voters to abide by un-Constitutional 'voter ID' laws.

Given this evidence it is obvious that conservatives are those who seek to turn this Nation into one controlled by a mob mentality.

Our Republic is a form of democracy. Meanwhile you liberals all applaud when Reid violates that republic by refusing to send to committee bills passed by the House. You claim the President is right to IGNORE the Republicans and refuse to compromise.

The ones that violate the intent and reality of our form of Government is the Liberals that support Reid and Obama.

Democracy is Conservative's Kryptonite.

Conservatives hate democracy because conservatives know that they can never be enough in numbers to be able to have the kind of power that democratic government allows when the People have a strong and widespread voice.

btw, the word 'mob' that conservatives like to toss around on this topic?

It translates to "all those people who don't agree with us". That's the mob conservatives are talking about.

Pure democracy is unwieldy in a large population, with immense geographics. Thus, the need for representative governence, a Republic. Even when the US was much smaller, the Founders saw the drawbacks of pure democracy; if every act is subject to a popular vote, unpopular ideas will be suppressed, and governing will occupy all the resources of the populace.

Democracy would be exemplified in modern recent history by the state referendums, such as Proposition 8 in California.

Oddly enough no conservatives that I'm aware of complained of that being 'mob rule'.
