What If Universities Were Designed to Produce Workers?

Universities were originally meant to teach the sons of gentlemen to be gentlemen, they are now evolving into trade schools and producers of professional athletes.

Takes time to learn the math and the tools to be sure that you know what you're doing. Good luck getting rid of classes and test as they're important for pounding into young skulls these skills.

Do you really want a doctor without him being fined toned in the understanding of the human body? No way in hell should we allow a basic student to start fucking with someones body.

Do you want your Engineer to have the same or learn the math on the job. Good luck with that!

One of the main reasons for college is to learn the "floor" and walls in order to build a ceiling for a future job.

That's not what the article is suggesting. That's not how internships work.

Actually, I would have no problem with an engineering intern learning math on the job, under a supervising engineer. Engineers continue learning math while on the job all the time.

Also, the medical profession is already somewhat structured such that their are internships in route to becoming medical professionals. This does not necessarily eliminating classroom study even though much can be learned now through online class. There is more thane one way to skin a cat and more that one approach to education.

How about doctors, scientist, engineers and computer tech??? Fields that you can't just learn on the job.
But that's how they learned at one time, I think Lincoln had about a year of school and became a lawyer, he learned on the job.

Just read on the web about the huge percentage of PhDs being cranked out. 4 yrs for a Bachelor degree, 2 more for a Masters, and 2 or more for a doctorate.

Could be out in 4 working at a useful job.
