While the likelihood of your scenario is slim in chance, if a sitting President decided to use the regular armed forces to seize full power of our political machinery, the units he'd use to do so would perform the task long before anyone in the media or public knew what hit them.

I don't know if you've ever sworn the oath you take when entering the military or any other government office or position for that matter but you swear an oath to protect the nation not a person. Every member of the military would recognize any order against the people to be illegal so would not obey it.

In the end, Jackson relented to the Congressional orders. You leave that part out. NO President has EVER pushed it past that point. Even Trump takes it to that point then relents. Case in point, he now has given his permission (like that really matters) so that past and present cabinet and federal employees are allowed to comply with the subpoenas. What would happen if a President were to not relent in the end? No one knows. Congress or the Supreme Court has no Army. All of the Law Enforcement at the Federal Level works for the President. Just who is going to arrest the President? The ONLY option would be Impeachment and Senate Presidential Removal. And only then could the President be removed because at that point, he's no longer the President and the VP who is now the President controls the Military and DOJ. Trump knew he was walking on dangerous ground but like always, had to tread it and see how far he could push it. Now he knows. Well, until next time.
